Just bought assassin's creed, downloaded it, downloaded the
length updates, went to play it...loads up dont even see the
    splash screen rather the message

"Assassin's Creed Game has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

My specs for my laptop are:

    Intel Core 2 Duo CPU
    T8100 @2.10GHz
    2.09GHz, 3GB of RAM
Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset FAmily
    384MB Memory ^

Ran the detection tool for the minimum system requirements
and everything came up good... met all the requirements

so if anyone can help please, i want to play it bad

check your graphics card is compatible, or rather they dont have issues with it on the support website for the game.

Or you could just remove the game, delete the program folder and install the game fresh. Sometimes disabling antivirus while installing can help as its known to cause issues.

I had the same issue on an old game, i checked the website and sure enough issues with my card! i got a full refund for it as its not mentioned on the box so i could not have known :)

    its not an installation error,
i have it on an external hard drive and i plugged that into downstairs
but the computer doesnt have enough RAM because it just keeps
    crashing throughout the game

i had a slight feeling it was graphics card
    error, checking support page now.

    Hi

If you have installed the game to an external drive then, uninstall and re-install on the internal drive as it maybe that the data transfer is slow from USB External Drive, USB is not as quick as SATA or IDE.

But I do agree with VoiD in that your GFX Card is not really upto playing high end games sadly.

    ohk ill try that now..
yeh i presume is just my graphics card
    isnt good enough...

however are cards difficult to install on laptops?
is it possible to transfer my card from my computer
to laptop? as in swap them over

Same thing was happening to me with star wars: empire at war actually. I'll check this site when I get home.
