My laptop slows down and freezes randomly. When it gets to that point the mouse courser will be spinning indication that the system is busy. What should take less than a second takes forever but if left for 10 - 20 minutes will still be executed...eg open folder or close a window.
I have just done a scan disk with "attempt to recover bad sectors" but it still happens...it used to fix the slowdowns for a while.

I'm wondering if this this is a bad hard drive but would like to see if there are other steps i can take to see if there is another solution rather than dumping the laptop (im not gonna replace the drive)

I had this issue a while back. I backed up all my important stuff onto an external hard drive and then reset the laptop to its factory settings, then put all stuff back on. It worked like a charm. I'm not sure if all or even most laptops can be reset like this though. Good luck!

ok i will give it a try. how long does it usually take? i remember running sfc /scannow a few month back and it got stuck a file and wouldn't go past it. that has been fixed though.

Never mind. It finished in just a few minutes. It said:

"Windows resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them."

The log is 3mb and too big to upload here but i believe i got the part where it couldn't fix the file. Here if anyone wants to download the full report (CBS-Copy.log): http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?file_id=00425345954731110152

Remember i said sfc /scannow and my antivirus would hang up on a specific file a while ago? Well it is the same file listed in the report below Syncreg.dll. Back then scandisk seemed to have fixed it. Also not sure why there is amd stuff on an intel system.

    POQ 141 ends.

    1. All the dates in that log are from when i ran it.
    2. I can't delete CBS.log. It is not an accessible file as its locked in by windows. I had to copy/paste it before i could open it.
