Hello all I may or may not have some possible malware, but I'm no expert so you never know.

The issue at hand is that I use Google Chrome as my browser and have Google set as my default search engine. With Chrome I can just type what I want to search into the address bar and will get Google's search results when I hit enter. As of today being 11/9/2010, it now redirects my searches to my ISP.

If I use Firefox where I have Google also as my default search engine, I'll get the results from Google as normal. Seeing this behavior I went through the cleaning procedure you have outlined for Windows 7. I DID NOT run Combo Fix or Root Repeal as I'm running a 64 bit version. All other programs I ran as was instructed.

I also took 2 screenshot pictures of my Chrome browser's address bar immediately when I hit Enter to begin the search and of the resulting address which resulted from my search. If you would like those 2 picture files I can happily provide them for you.

The only other possible thing I can think of is that I have Javascript turned off in Chrome and allow it on sites as I deem necessary. Firefox does not have NoScript installed.

Anyhow, here's my logs from the cleaning procedure, thanks for your assistance.

Wall of text crits you for 9000.

Am I right in thinking that you are not redirected in FireFox, but are in IE? I am not seeing any malware in those logs. Have you tried uninstalling IE and running CCLeaner and then re-installing it?

    Hey Tim,

I don't use IE at all, me no likey. I use Google Chrome as my default browser and Firefox as my backup. Google Chrome is the browser where I'm getting redirected.

I thought about doing what you've suggested in terms of uninstalling Chrome reboot, run CCleaner, reboot and then reinstall it. However I figure I may as well be safe and go through the procedure to make sure that I'm clean to begin with rather than trying to "throw money at the problem" if you will.

Let me know how things look or if you need any additional information and I'll be glad to help you help me. Thanks again for the help in advance.

I don't think this is a malware issue. I rather think it is a setting in your Chrome browser. Just for the halibut, try doing an online scan with eSet:

    eSet Online Scan.

Well here's the log from the ESET scan. From the looks of it you're probably right that something got FUBARed in my Chrome settings and a uninstall/reinstall will be the course of action. Let me know though as I don't want to end up taking 1 step fowards while taking 2 steps back.

eSet didn't find anything. I would suggest that you uninstall Chrome and try a reinstall. If you need assistance, post in the software forum.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real time protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.We recommend them for doing backup scans when you suspect a malware infection.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.

    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
