SweetPCFix Shortcut removal

I recently had SweetIM and associated bits loaded onto my PC (Vista Ultimate 64 bit). I didn't want it - but was updating programs using Free Update Checker - and one update offer had tick-boxes for SweetIM etc. I deliberately unticked, but it loaded none-the-less!!

MalwareBytes found it and alerted me. I used FileAssassin to get rid of the programs, and much of the associated junk. One thing is left, which I can't shift. A shortcut entitled 'SweetPCFix'.

I can move it, physically, round the desktop - but i can't delete it, nor move it to another folder. If i try, i get a mesage 'Could not find ... no longer located - Verify the item's location and try again'.

Vista's Search (including System and Hidden folders) finds nothing.

'Properties' of the shortcut show its URL as being http://lp.sweetpcfix.com/?lpver=89

I don't think it's doing any harm, but i'd like to get rid of it completely. Not even FileAssassin will touch it - and that usally gets rid of anything!

    Any help, please?

Were you able to remove it?

To the best of my knowledge, yes.

In fact, earlier today I ran a Malwarebytes scan (Full scan) - which reported all clear.

Interstingly, tho, while it was running, AVG popped up, saying it had found 2 Trojans, (Generic29.AJGG and Generic29.AJGH) which it had placed in the Virus Vault.

I haven't emptied the Vault, yet. I just wondered if there was some interaction between AVG and Malwarebytes - and I might need to back-track, somehow.

As for clearing SweetIM and it's associated bits and pieces, I forget the exact detail of what I did - but basically, I did a search on 'Sweet' - opened folders, deleted what i could 'Delete', and used FileAssassin on the remaining bits and pieces individually. Seems to have done the trick.

    Hope this info helps you.
