Hi, I am running a laptop loaded with Windows XP SP2 and am having trouble connecting to wireless networs around me. Some networks I can connect to, others, my laptop is detecting as unsecured networs but when i try to connect it spends about 10 minutes trying but cant.

Is this a problem of signal strength. Is there something I can use to boost my wireless strength or otherwise which will allow me to connect to all the networks I can see.

    Cheers!

I would assume that most privately owned wireless access points are secured in some way. A wireless network that utilizes MAC filtering will show up on your machine as unsecured but in fact the MAC filtering is a form of wireless security.
