Changing Image Size

This probably sounds like a real elementry question but is there a way I can change the image size of a picture so I can email the image? Now my images are 2048 X 1536 JPG files shot with a Canon camara and I need to shrink these images. I have Corel Draw Photo Paint, Jasc Paint Shop Pro 8.0 and Canon Zoombrowser if that helps. Thanks

Not sure with the programs you have there, but under JASC or Corel Draw, check under "image" then there should be a resize option, or maybe EDIT->Image-Resize, something like that.

 

Or Irfan Viewer which does resizing and a helluva lot more without the need to open up a major graphic editor.

As a die hard PSP user (versions 7, 8 & 9) I have to disagree with some of that tutorial. If you reduce an image as suggested you lose alot of the quality and detail. To get the best possible reduction and maintain the sharpness of the image without detail loss it should be resized in increments. Resize as follows in PSP for best results:

Set the pixel width to 90% (you can go lower to 85% but I don't recommend the lower setting) You will need to reduce it however many times until you reach your desired size as shown in the 'Original Dimensions' or by simply viewing the image size. Keep reducing in 90% increments until you have reached your desired size then use Effects > Sharpen > Unsharp Mask with these settings: Radius: 1.00 Strength: 40 Clipping 5

Another option is to reduce it in 90% increments and use Effects > Sharpen > Sharpen after every 2nd or 3rd reduction but I find the above method gives much better results than this.

 

Yet another program you may want to take a look at are the FastStone lines. You can change the size of multiple files at once, among many other things.

If it's only a one off, and you don't want to install a program, then just use Paint.

It's only rudimentary, but fine for one time or very occasional use.

If you want something better, IRFANVIEW is very good, and free.

I'm almost too embarrassed to say but I used MS Office Picture manager...
