This is an extreme magnification of something everyone's heard of; can you guess what it is? Answer later in the weekend :)

Apart from looking like something that has a cellular structure, I wouldn't have a clue, <*shrug> LoL!

    Agreed. It's a sunspot. :)

Since it is the same as the 'spot' in this reference picture, yep - it's a sunspot. So much for my original stab, LoL! I did wonder why I couldn't see any nuclei, but it was a little blurry, so I wasn't sure. ;)

See spot run...run spot run! :) Spot is my sun :D

A cool note about the image: it's not a satellite image, it was captured by the ground-based Dunn Solar Telescope in, yes, Sunspot, New Mexico. The area in the image is 3 times the size of earth.

I was gonna guess that the first image was a close up of one of my blackheads......:(

I think the second pic is an asteroid.

One side of me says it is under because it kind of looks sponge-like...the other side of me says it is above, because it kind of looks like it could be a moonrock and after all....Star is the one who posted it!!!

    Otherwise.....dunno!!

    #2 is above. A dinosaur-killer, or asteroid.

It's probably a grain of sand. It would depend on the tide.

Image #2 is a false-color image of Hyperion, one of Saturn's moons. Cassini snagged this image a couple of months ago. Hyperion has a reddish tint to it, but the red was toned down and other hues enhanced in order to make subtle color variations on Hyperion's surface more apparent.

I think this may be a particularly bad case of You-Didn't-Read-The-Whole-Thread syndrome :p The post is incorrect, and in fact makes NO sense in context! Quick, is there a doctor in the house? I think we can save it!

Pic 2 asteroid ( the impact craters give it away ) pic 2 is prolly real ( satern and the shadow of its rings and one of its moons prolly Enceladus ) but that line at the bottom is a bit odd.....and what about the panda pic ......

Not a photochop :) Cassini also snagged this view of Saturn's moon Dione, with Saturn and its edge-on rings in the background.

Dont thinks its the ocean I think it would be to difficult to keep a high magnification telescope steady, dont think its a deep space imager because of the of the amount of blue in the pic, therefore I'm going for ground :)

It's an image taken from the ground; specifically, the new Southern African Large Telescope which sits on a hill in the Karoo region.
