I do not see this as earth shattering news sadly.

Nothing about FaceBook or any site is "earthshaking".
But an improvement is an improvement, whether you use it or not. And it is not a requirement to post your every move on FB. It's merely a way to stay in touch, with others. The rest is just window dressing for people who don't know how to go anywhere else. Like anything on the 'net, including here, it gets misused. I use it to spread pictures, to people, through shares. Hopefully, one will end up being bought or put into an article. And I keep up with an old Navy buddy in Texas and one in San Diego. Both, who I got back into contact with, thanks to FB. Call it evil if you will, but used with some thought, it is a good place.

Since we're on the subject of Facebook, I have a (possibly silly) question:
I'm thinking of putting up a FB page for my PC repair shop. Unlike my personal FB page (which is locked down to friends only), a page promoting my business will obviously have to be public. My concern is horror stories I've heard from others about competitors posting false and slanderous comments on a business FB page. I have a good business reputation and I don't want to have it tarnished by non-customers posting trash and lies. If you think this sounds silly, it's not. I know for a fact that at least one major furniture store in the Houston area hires social media "trolls" - their job is to post shill positive comments under multiple e-mails/names on how great <name redacted> Furniture is in order to dilute the negative comments, even though the shills have neither shopped at nor made a purchase there. Any thoughts on this? Thanks in advance. |
