Well, I'm partial to startpage. http://www.startpage.com/ Here's a link where you can find out everything about that search engine. http://www.startpage.com/eng/protect-privacy.html#q17 Be sure to read all about it and the FAQ of course. A link from youtube, explaining startpage's proxy service. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qv3SCbI5KFM

Oh and I have set startpage as my homepage on all 3 browsers. Just a few days ago they added google but your search request doesn't go to google directly because it goes to startpage servers first to protect your privacy. Then it bounces your requested info back to you.

There's also a plugin for Firefox but personally don't want to use it as one has to sign an agreement to their terms. http://www.startpage.com/eng/download-startpage-plugin.html

    The video claims that:
    I question that claim:

Cookie arguments aside (and I wonder who came-up with such a ridiculous name for these "little bits of text" (?) ... "crumbs" might have been a better name), in any event...

I am liking this idea of accessing and surfing anonymously (or at least the efforts in that direction)... seems MUCH safer to me (and more in-line with Truer (more True), personal "Freedoms" or individual "Liberties").

Just the standard agreement that you also get with most any software. I added it to my search options in FF, but have yet to use it. Looks good, if it does what it says it can. ;)

Can I throw this one into the mix?
I've not used it yet but it might make for interesting comparisons if anyone has the time or inclination.

Well ya just did and I, for one, DO appreciate it - and I am inclined, if not so much having time, though that matter, is only a matter...of Time ;) ~

    Thanks!

Will report back as/when I am able...............

Well, I briefly checked it out...but not sure what I'm looking for really. I did notice that it is not an "HTTPS" site, so that slowed my enthusiasm right away.

I came-across this one https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/duck-duck-go-ssl/ in Firefox 4, and will see how it goes...

What I said in that post was not that smart since I didn't even try it out eh? :-D Since I have startpage already set as my home pages I didn't see the use of having it as an addon in Fx and in PM as well.

    HI Glenn

I agree with locodave above and IE8 and 9 and in-private browsing will do what you need as for privacy in searching but if you want to for whatever reason search or browse the internet anonymously then Tor is what you likely need to look into.

But TBH at the end of the day why search securely as unless you bounce your IP off multiple proxies to hide it the effort is not worth the trouble unless your are nefarious in what you are doing, but looking up general items on the internet is not going to catch anyone's attention as they have better things to do and with the amount of search traffic the odd search for porn is going to be lost in the data-stream ;)
