I've got a hopefully minor problem here, and a small amount of time in which to deal with it. I'm preparing for a move, and I was doing a last minute spyware clean as per the instructions on your site. However, once I rebooted into safemode, by setting it up to start in safe mode through msconfig, it wouldn't accept my password to log onto my computer anymore. It clamimed I was logging into the wrong domain, orI was using the wrong password and username. I checked myself many times to be sure I wasn't just entering it wrong, but I couldn't find anything wrong with my typing. If anyone can offer me a quick fix without wiping my computer clean, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, love the site, and I look forward to an answer.

No matter what, we should be able to fix this by booting into recovery console and rebuilding the boot.ini file, but first, try logging on as "administrator" (no quotes), with a blank password.

    Hope this helps!

Also, is this Windows XP Home or Pro? Is it, or has it ever been, joined to a domain?

Just FYI, the easiest and quickest way to rebuilt your boot.ini would probably be to follow the solution at: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/330184/en-us . This will create a second entry for Windows XP in the boot.ini tab, one without the "/safeboot" switch. When your computer boots, you will be promped to load into windows xp or windows xp, just press enter on your top one, and the computer will boot fine. Then, the invalid boot.ini entry can be manually removed latter, when you have more time.

Yeah, it was joined to my College network domain for a year. Long after I stopped going there however, my computer has been convinced its still on that network. Since it worked fine enough on its own accord, I never bothered to fix it. But thanks for the help so far.

Alright, good stuff. "administrator" worked, and I turned /safeboot off. However, I'd like to be able to log in on my own user account so I can continue the spyware cleaning process. If I can just figure out how to get my computer off the college domain, I should be set. Again, thank you for ALL your help.
