Executables aren't executing

Hey all, I'm having a problem I have never seen or heard of before...

A few months ago this started ocurring, and I've searched and searched the internet but could not find an answer. The problem is that if I click on any program file (***.exe) it will not run. For example, if I click on Windows Media Player.exe it will not run. But if I click on Song8.mp3, it opens up in Windows Media Player and runs fine.

EXE's on my desktop, startmenu, everywhere on my computer are not running.

In order for me to run an executable file, I must find where it is on my PC, and then run the Command Prompt and path it out. Once I'm in the right folder and I've typed the filename in correctly, it runs without a problem.

I have not changed anything (that I recall/noticed) and I do not have any viruses or spyware.

Any help would be great.
