I MUST be doin' somethin' RIGHT...for a change!

I dunno exactly what it is that I may be doin' right, but for the past 7 years since I've hadda computer in this house (which, by the way, has always been accessible to all kinda kids, teenagers, family members, friends & even some of their friends), I can only recall havin' (maybe) 3 serious virus infections occurin' on my (various) systems (and ya best believe that I sure am knockin' wood right on my hard-ass head right about now).

I search thru many website forums such as this and see that so many folk are constantly pleadin' for help cuz they're always gettin' infected with this, that and the other thing....not to mention that they're gettin' hijacked, spat on, spied on and all that bad kinda stuff. I can honestly say that I've never hadda problem with even one-tenth of the issues that I read about.

My current system is what I refer to as my "Cliff Special"....which is basically an older system that was built for me with various leftover parts some time ago by my "Cliff, The Computer Guru Guy" which consists of Windows 98 (I just love them oldies but goodies!) on a tiny 6 GB HD (which still has 4.47 GB free space) and with a mere 256 MB RAM. I have AVG's Free virus protection (which I update and run almost on a daily basis) along with SpywareBlaster, Lavasoft's Ad-Aware, CWShredder, SpyBot Search & Destroy and CCleaner (which are also updated and run daily/regularly). I have NO firewall (I still use dial-up...another oldie but goodie!) and I'm certainly nowhere NEAR a computer whiz. I basically know how to turn the darn thing on, sign onto AOL, check my mail, go hit a few adored sites (such as this one), click a few buttons here and there to get some software updates and run the above mentioned programs, shut the thing off, and thats about IT. And with all of the different faces that get on and off this thing and the amount of time that is spent online between us all (which is, like, 24/7), its a wonder that my computer is NOT constantly on the blink with ginormous problems.

So I reckon I outta be grateful for what I've got, and even for what I don't got....cuz I think I'd be tearin' my hair out if I hadda deal with all the issues I learn about online. And with me bein' a young, workin' widow and havin' the last of my 4 kids here at home with me (who is now a male teenager, no less!), I do believe I have ENUFF to contend with!
