Welcome to the Malware Removal forum. :)

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Please follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
    • **** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual update Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only RogueKiller and Malwarebytes while logged into this other user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run the rest of the READ & RUN ME FIRST instructions on the infected account.
    4. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:
Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

    Ok!

Just to make sure... this is not a case of: "If you are here due to having browser redirection problems, see this first >> Fixing Google Redirection/Hijacking Problems"

It doesn´t happen when I search google, it happens randomly apparently...

    Cheers

OK well follow my instructions and let's see what turns up. It may just be a simple case of uninstalling and reinstalling Google Chrome. However I would prefer to have the information that the logs from running our tools provide. Thanks :)

    Hi,

It looks like that after running ad Junkware Removal Tool and the previous steps, everything is back to normal.

Do I still need to post my logs or I can assume everything is fine ?

By the way... I would like to check an updated advice on antivirus / malware / firewall / VPN to make everything secure here. I mean, what are the nice choices. I can find everything in other forum sections, right ?

    Thanks!

You might as well now we've got this far. Then I can check for any stragglers if they exist. ;)

And do you have the rest of the requested logs? :confused

After TDSSkiller it says - "Now check to see if your problem has been resolved. If not, continue on with the next section." So I stopped here.

The previous steps were only cleaning browsers cookies, etc, right ? So I stopped after TDSSKiller...

Did I miss something ? Cheers

All told I want to see logs from:
    • Malware Bytes
    • Hitman Pro
    • TDSSKiller (which you already attached)
    • MGlogs.zip - from running MGTools.exe
    • Roguekiller

    Thanks. ;)

    Hi,

SOrry for the late reply. This is a office computer and I don´t use everyday.

    So here are the logs.

Something happened in MG Tools that were kind of out of instructions. I runned it, it opened a console window and a regular windows window to start working. After running all both windows closed and I couldn´t see any message. But... the log was created, this sysinfo.txt. Not sure is something about new versions or so...

    Cheers

If that log was created then the whole zipped file should be there... if you really cannot see it I'd like you to run it again please. Thanks.

There´s no zipped files. Now I´ve attached everything that is inside MGTools and MGTools/temp folders. I runned again since I found it strange in the first place. Same results. UAC is off, hidden files is set to be shown... :confused

Aha! It also created a MGTools folder in my D: drive. Pretty strange... there´s a lot of files there and the .bat... I will check tomorrow... cheers

See the instructions in the READ & RUN ME FIRST. You need to run MGtools from your Windows boot drive which for you is drive C. Sounds like you ran it on drive D. You can delete the MGtools folder on drive D. The put MGtools.exe on drive C and run it from there as instructed.

Before we continue I would like for you to use MSConfig to put this machine back into normal start up mode. Any other mode is primarily used for troubleshooting and diagnostic purposes. You should look into some third party software to control start up's.

Re run Hitman Pro (activate the free trial) and have it remove all of the Potential Unwanted Programs:

Now reboot the machine and rerun Hitman again (just a scan) and attch new log.

Run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. (Right click and run as admin if using Vista, Windows7 or Win8) Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.
    Explain how things are running.

Here are the logs. Everything seems fine from here.

I would like some advices to keep everything safe and antivirus + tools recommendations for windows 7 If you can. I will probably wait some months to upgrade to windows 10 to avoid problems.

You did not put the machine back into normal start up as requested. Please do so using MSCONFIG now and then follow the steps again from my previous message. :)

I missed it! It is configured for selective startup... but to tell you the truth I never changed it during the process. I only changed UAC. Is that ok ?

I will do the scans again. Thanks.

Just run MGTools again once you are in normal start up mode ;)

@Kestrel13!, There are multiple antivirus programs running ( Avast and MSE ).

    MeBa Private E-2

Here it is. I took the chance to uninstall a couple of annoying programs.

Can I go back to selective startup in MsConfig ? There are a couple of programs that I don´t want to run at startup and I found no way to disable then.

You should stay in normal mode. Any other mode is primarily used for troubleshooting and diagnostic purposes. You should look into some third party software to control start up's NOT msconfig. ;)

Now as Chaslang pointed out, there is more than one antivirus on this machine so you need to uninstall one of them:

    • Avast
    • Microsoft Security Essentials

  27. MeBa

    MeBa Private E-2

All right. Which you do you recomend to keep ? I´m confortable with avast, but have no idea what are the recommendations for this year and my setup.

I use Avast personally. But the choice is yours. :)

    Ready for final steps?

I just opened Microsoft Security Essentials and it shows that real time protection is disabled. There´s a daily check at 13:00, so maybe that´s why it has shown on logs, right ? Is there any other way to disable it ?

Besides that, I´m ready for the final steps!

  30. chaslang

chaslang MajorGeeks Admin - Master Malware Expert Staff Member

You must uninstall it! Not disable it! That is if you plan to use Avast which in reality provides better protection.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others) and running MGclean.bat did not remove them, you can delete these files now.
    3. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    4. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    5. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.

    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
