Had a serious accident at work today. Lost 3 concrete wall panels off of the 4th floor and had one fatality from it. Of course I saw it all. Not sure if I will be able to sleep tonight or not. Please keep me and the rest of the guys on the jobsite in your prayers.

I'm really sorry to hear about your co-worker. Industrial accidents are so tragic. You just don't expect them not to be coming home after the day's work is done.

here is the local newspaper's slant on it. I may post my views on it later, not real sure at this moment. Kind of screwed up right now, got to get my head on straight.

Ok, now I can answer these questions without having problems I think.

No, it was not ME personally that lost the panels, however, it was my crew of which I am a part of. I was down at the southeast corner of the building chasing down power problems at the junction box and the panels landed about 40 to 50 feet away from where I was at. I was unfortunate enough to have a fairly clear view of this catastrophe.

I did not know this gentleman other than seeing him on the jobsite from time to time. As most of the (mexican) Texans don't speak english well I have little interaction with them. I don't even know if he had any family.

Company BS..... Well, honestly, I don't know for sure yet. OSHA is already involved, as expected, and will tighten up safety concerns to a ridiculous point of course. I will have to answer this one later on.

Please forgive my lateness in my reply jarcher. As you are probably aware, since I saw this first hand, I have had some difficulties coping with it. I only got about 2 hours sleep on Thursday night and called off of work on Friday. I will be going back on Monday though and am not looking forward to working there anymore. I am sure that I will be interviewed a number of times and most likely will have to spend time in the courts at a later date with testimony to what I saw and participated in. My largest regret is the simple fact that there was nothing I could do to save this man's life.

sorry I made ya post on it again. . .

I know many(people) with similer regrets and have been in similer situations.
Some have pulled through it, but honestly most have not.
Therapy did help also with 10 years of pills.
I do not know if you are a religous man or not, if you are thank God that the "damage" was not any more severe. .and you where not injured(or worse).
If you are not, therapy and family and friends may also be turned to.
the worst thing you can do is keep it inside(man or not)

I am not a religous man, myself, nor will I ever claim to be. But I am reminded of Job. .. .

    anyway,
I am sorry for your pain, but the best(and hardest) thing you can do, would be to just keep on living, put it behind you. the way thats best for you.
And if that means getting a new job or starting a new life, so be it.
Just don't let it change who you are

Yes I am a religious man. In fact I will be going on a missionary trip to Haiti with my wife and 6 other people in March of 2005 as some of you already know.

I will get through this ok, I've been through similar hardships in my life. It just does not get any easier is all. I know the importance of talking about it and will continue to do so. Thanks for your consideration jarcher. It's much appreciated.

    My uncle(only 2y older than I) is a minister.
    We grew up together(like brothers)
When he went on his first missionary thing
But he did come home feeling much better

Then He and his wife traveled for a few years doing that
they are good people, creepy, but good. . . ;)

have a (don't know what word to use)good time in March

We are looking forward to growing in our faith while in Haiti. Our largest concern is of course finances and finding enough people to help support us both financially and with prayer. It is our opinion that prayers are more important than finances at this moment. I do have a question tho.... Why do you term your uncle and aunt as "creepy"?

    Jack

  19. jarcher

    jarcher I can't handle a title

not creepy for their beliefs or how they go about it
but creepy as people in general

that and my uncle went to Med school
    then to seminary(sp)
and doesn't work and is always asking for money
    he's a friggn Dr. . I mean come on.
It's great that he is volunteering in shelters and such all the time
I am sure it makes him feel good. . .but he also has a family to take care of!!
anyway, enough of me. . .
how are things been going for you?

how's it going for me?? Well let's see, I'm finally sleeping half decent now (or at least until today). Went back to work today and began the process of cleaning up. Had to wait for the haz-mat people to show up so they could clean up the blood and other organic matter that was left under the slabs of concrete. Then at the end of the day I had to talk to the insurance investigator and OSHA investigator. How's my day been??? Could have been better.

    Yick, nasty.

I wouldn't be surprised if many people who also witnessed it have to have therapy at some point or another. Can really mess you up somthing like that can.

Hope you get your full sleep back, and take it all in your stride. All the best :)

I've been involved in crash cleanup after quite a few small aircraft accidents, some of them fatals. And watched two business friends crash & die right on the airport. Thankfully I wasnt' involved in cleaning up that one. The "smell of death" is very real. It isn't fun, but death is an inevitable part of life. And while it's tough being close to something like that, life goes on.

The best thing to carry long-term from such a tragedy is the realization that NONE of us are promised tomorrow, and a determination to make the best of whatever time we have.

Hang in there Wraith. It will get better.
