A friend of mine has been having problems with his system and I tried to help him out by doing a pc restore (it's a dell). This uses the partition to reload the factory setup. Problem is that originally his desktop toolbar/start button is missing, and even after the restore it's still missing. The icons are still there and can be used. I can use the alt-control-delete to bring up the windows task manager and by clicking on file/new task and typeing in the run bar "explorer" I can bring up windows explorer to get around (don't have access to control panel though). So, what happen to the toolbar and start button for desktop and how do I get it back.
After I did pc restore I loaded ccleaner, avg anti-virus and clean out everything as far as spyware. There was no viruses found.

Could his monitor be misconfigured? The vertical hold messed up? Maybe try and use the adjustments on the monitor to make sure he doesn't have the display too low on the screen?

Well, the problem wasn't the monitor settings. In fact, I'm not sure what the problem was. But, the tool bar now shows up. Really Weird.
