    Hello

I have formatted my computer and re-installed everything as it was before I formatted it. I have updated my chipset, ethernet driver, etc (I use DFI board with nForce4 chipset and the driver comes as an package). And, the ethernet driver must be updated because it was causing problems at bootup. Now, my internet connection disconnects about every 15min and reconnects by itself. It is behind a router and there are three computers connected to the router, and the other two computers do not have this problem. How should I go about figuring out what is wrong?

    Thank you very much.

In General, you can debug the Network Setting of the computer following these steps.

Step One. Check the Network parameters in the Computer's Device Manager. Make sure that the drivers are installed correctly; there is No IRQ conflict, and No Ghost installation. http://www.ezlan.net/faq#ghost

Step Two Verify Basic network setting in the OS: http://www.ezlan.net/Installing#verify
If the above two Steps indicates that every thing looks good but functionally it does not work.

Step Three. Check (and repair if necessary) the Socket Layers, Winsock, and or refresh the TCP/IP Stack. http://www.ezlan.net/clean#refreshnet

If need to Reinstall; Log to this page it have a lot of links to instructions for Windows Network Installation - http://www.ezlan.net/Installing.html

    hmmm...
I not quite clear on if the NIC itself is working or not.
cat5e, is he saying he solved the driver issue or he needs to solve the driver issue?
    bonniehandi,
What OS are you using on the PC?
When booted all the way, can you go into command prompt and ping the other PCs?
Also, (this is only suggestion) if you have more than one partition, did you check for viruses on all the partitions?
I'm asking because I had the same problem with a customer's PC, but turned out that his second partition was infected with a certain virus that does this.

I am using Windows XP SP2.
I mean that I have solved the driver issue already (I can boot up now).

I can ping other PCs fine.
I ran my computer with 2 anti-virus scan and nothing.

    Thanks

if you can ping the other PCs when you don't have internet connection, your NIC and LAN is fine.
Can you try stopping all unneeded processes and run the IE?

oh, and also, try giving it static IP instead of DHCPd.

Giving it a static IP seems to fix the problem.
    Thanks.

    No problem.
But if static IP solves the problem, it may mean your DHCP setting on your router has to be looked at.
You might have to change the expiration, or IP filtering settings... Take a look at them.:)
