Spybot running slower??

    Hello, Ive been using spybot for the last year and a half for both spyware problems and general cleanup on my pc. In the past weeks, it has become unbelievably slow. Today it took over 9 hrs to scan my machine which has 512 megs of ram, and only about 20 gig of files.

    Whats going on???

    I don't think you meant to say what this implies. I think you meant to say that you have xxxx number of files taking up 20 GB of disk space. If you truly have "20 gig of files" it would take forever to scan your PC.

    • Whatelse do you have running while the scan is running? Exactly which application (word processing, games, antivirus, antispyware, firewall, ....etc)?
    • Are you surfing at the same time?
    • When is the last time you defragged?
    • When is the last time you ran another scanner (antivirus or antispyware) and how long did it take?
    • Did the scan complete?

    yes i was mistaken, 20 gb of space to be scanned, not 20gb files

    i have run the spybot scan in both safe mode (nothing else runing except the default services) and in regular mode (no major programs running, jst several process and my firewall)

    avg seems to run at a normal rate
    adaware scans through just fine
    hijack this scans through just fine also

    yes the spybot scans do complete but they take over 8 hours.
    havent defragged in a while- probably should

    Some people have complained in the past the Spybot seems to drag at certain points. While I have sometimes seen it take longer to complete than normally expected, I have never seen it take hours. Do you have Teatimer running? It can make things take longer?

    Have you run thru the READ & RUN ME? Last time you were here you never finished it and you had infections that needed to be fixed. I'm referring to the below thread which was never completed:

    yes since then i have completed all the steps, however i didnt make a thread, i looked up all the things i wasn't sure about.
