    Hey

I have a problem which is rather unique as far as im aware, multiple google searches yielded no issues with 'The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King'

    My problem is this:

No matter how high or how low my graphics settings are, the game runs very slowly, like will run fine for 2 seconds, lag for 4 etc.
I have tried new graphics drivers, new directx installation, cleaning my H/D, de-fragging, virus and adaware scanning, and i'm sure some other techniques which i've forgotten.

NO other games lag, Tomb Raider:Legend runs perfectly, with a tiny amount of lag with the 'next gen' content enabled.

The issue is not with XP x64 as other people say it works like a gem with 64 bit windows.

    My System Specs:
    AMD Athlon X2 4600+
    2GB 667mhz Dual Channel RAM
    NVIDIA GeForce 7900GT 256mb
With a M-Audio Delta 1010LT sound card (not that that should make a difference)
    320GB SATA Hard Drive
    Running Windows XP Pro x64

Any ideas? help is much appreciated. confused

Silly question: Have you tried patching the game? Or seeing if there's a newer patch version? Often you'll get these problems after patching, and it's a simple fix implemented on the game end with a new patch.

That game is really buggy, and I've had the same problems. If I put the settings high enough everything's tinted green.
But since apparently other people have got it to run fine...confused

Yeah, I've looked for a patch. On eagames.com the only download they have is a demo and no luck on other sites either. rolleyes

I've had the game working perfectly (with a small amount of lag) on my old machine which was P2 400mhz, 192mb RAM, 64mb Geforce 440MX...

Guess It's about time to sell it on eBay for a dollar or two :D

So no other ideas? It's either a problem with the game itself being buggy? or a problem with 64 bit?

    Cheers for the fast replies.

Have you got a non-64 computer you can test it on?

Not anymore, but i know the game runs well as i have had it running smoothly on two 32 bit computers before this.

    Cheers

Sounds like your pc is too fast for it! hmm

this may seem a bit obvious but have you checked to be sure that all of your drivers are up to date?

Try this. Get RivaTuner... you might have to google it, because I do not know the link. Get RivaTuner, then once you install it, there are customisation settings to turn off your shaders. I think 1.0 would make it run smooth.

I had this same problem with World of Warcraft.

My solution was that I just installed RivaTuner, went into the customisation settings and turned down the shader version to 1.0. There might be a better solutioin, but I know this one will work. My framerate was like 4.5 - 5.5, then once I did this, it jumped up like... 40-50 frames lol. Goodluck if you do this.
