Xp started hanging on start up yesterday (no error message, just freezing seconds after the desktop appears).

When I went into Safe Mode, everything was fine.

Using the system configurator, I isolated "cpuidle.exe (Unknown Manufacturer) as hanging me on start-up. I disabled it, and am able to work out of safe mode.

But now I'm hanging whenever I do anything complicated, like run a virus scan, or edit video, or even run windoctor. The CPU ramps up in usage, and eventually hangs when it hits 100%.

I went back to safe mode, and found it hanging there to whenever any complicated applications were used.

I can't really scan for viruses becasue I keep hanging, but I did manage to squeak thru a Norton System scan, and it says I have no viruses.

Can anyone help? I have Hijack logs.

    Any help is much appreciated...

I would just not disable CPUIDLE I would un-install it from add/remove and check for any reminents left by that software in the registry and remove them too.

CPUidle is most likely this app http://www.cpuidle.de/
