Default Free safe copying software

I would like to make a duplicate of one of my program CDs so that I do not have to use the original one when I have to reinstall, say after formatting. Is there a good copying program I can use, preferably free. I have used Roxio in the past as it was included on one of the OS disks I had, and also used the free Nero, but now that appears to be just for media. I

Thanks - however I tried ImgBurn yesterday and on installing it wanted me to use 2 other programs, one was WiseConvert and the other iLivid seemed to want to put its page as my home page and would not let me do my own back on, and it changed some of my personal settings. I didn't get as far as copying a disk as I wasnt sure where to go, but it really took over the computer and I could not access programs I already had open, so I have uninstalled both of them and its toolbar etc. Did I do something wrong?

When installing, it should give the option to opt out of those items. Just watch out for a dialog box that gives the options to install and uncheck if they are checked. Did you download the file from Majorgeeks as I have not seen wiseconvert installed with Imgburn. Usually it is the Ask toolbar.

Edit: Imgburn is excellent but it requires somewhat of a learning curve to make full use of its options. You may also want to look at CDburnerXP.

Did you complete the disc copy?

Just in case you didn't, I usually use the "Create Image File from Disc" option to write an ISO file of the original disc to my HD. Then use the "Write Image File to Disc" option to write the newly created ISO to a blank CD. The newly burned disc should be an exact copy of the original.

Edit: I just updated my imgburn to 2.5.7.0 with the file from here at MG. It is still the Ask toolbar that wants to install but it is easy to opt out as tgell's screenshot shows.
