Wondering if anyone can advise on this. Recently reformatted and updated my PC. I had forgotten to backup a few images so I ran recuva on it and was shocked to see hundreds of thousands of residual, recoverable files. What would be the steps to clean the residual information. Is there a particular software I might use? I've already reset to factories, updated windows and all that already. Thanks!

It's no good using something like Dban as that will remove the Windows installation you've just updated. CCleaner's Drive Wiper can overwrite unused space which is what you are wanting to do I think. Be warned - it can take quite a while, depending on how many passes you select.

Much appreciated. I'll take a look at all of these.
