Okay, I apparently have horrid luck. I've been virus free. Unfortunately, my router needed a firmware update and somewhere along the lines became unsecure for some reason. I noticed a new PC on my network (officemax-pc [and no, I don't live near an officemax]). Suddenly, my avast went all bells and whistles. I've done almost everything listed on the threads around here.

Here's an idea of what my computer does:

Starts up. Avast boots and screams because my computer's trying to send spam emails. This takes about 10 minutes to clear (that many different ones). Then I get an alert that says I have a rootkit (that I've removed 4-7 times).
My computer doesn't give me the option to show hidden files or folders.
I had a regedit that said that I couldn't change reg keys. That was taken care of. I also lost my admin rights, despite being a system admin.

I've included a HJT log as an attachment.

    Any ideas?

Please use add/remove programs to uninstall:
    Viewpoint Media Player

All ( and more) of these are on your desktop ....is there a reason for this:
Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following:

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Now download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.
    * Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    * Do not change any check box options!!
    * Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:

    * Now click the Execute button.
    * Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    * Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    * Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    * A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.

Now I want you to do a search only using windows explorer and see if you find these....note the date and size....
    Code:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\
    user32.dll May 9 2008 577536 "user32.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache\
    user32.dll May 9 2008 577536 "user32.dll

Is there a second user32.dll with different properties?

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Avenger.

Actually, stopkill is a little project of mine. It's a batch file/executable that prevents remote shutdown. I developed it as a shield from my coworkers/classmates.

    That's cool ....nasty co-workers....:)

Please don't quote my replies....it just slows things down.

Did you do the rest of the fix?

Ack, sorry. I'm working on doing it all now. Just fixed O20 and the reg edit.

The PSP ones are open-source games developed for the Playstation Portable.

QuickBFC is a batch file compiler.

The code for Stopkill.bat is as follows:

    Code:
    @echo off
    :start
    shutdown -a
    goto start
I then compiled it using quick BFC and set it as a ghost program. It's 64 kb in size and uses less than 2000k mem. usage. That puts it in the top 10 lowest programs running on my PC. It also prevents people who stumble onto my network from shutting me down with ease.

Have a few shut down and restart scripts like that......let me know when you are done (attach the logs). :)

Your logs are clean...however you didn't tell me about the new user32.dlls.....

    In the meantime:

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. If we used ComboFix then UNINSTALL COMBOFIX (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
    2.
    * Click START then RUN
    * Now type "%userprofile%\Desktop\cf" /u in the runbox and click OK.
    * Note: The space between the cf and the /U, it must be there.
    3. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    4. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    5. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
    * Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
    * Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    6. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
