    Hi,

I have just recived a new pc for christmas, it has windows vista on it but i am wanting to downgrade to xp home.

Can anyone tell me what drivers i will need, eg. graphics, sound? Will i need one for my hard drive one for my dvd/cdr ?
I have located a few from the makers websites but im not sure if i have missed any, as i do not know how many i should have... If anyone understands what i mean please respond i beg you!

    Cheers

You mean upgrade to XP lol

It depends upon the maufacturers of the hardware, i'd say check the motherboard makers website, audio (built in or not), graphics card (or built in), processor maybe AMD for example have a few on their site, update windows & anything else they offer (Windows Media Player 11), keyboard & mouse drivers, DVD/CD ROM/RW, moniter.

Oh and ethernet drivers are good too.

Basically everything will have a driver, all you need to do is update it :)

Diddn't you get any CD's with drivers on to give you an idea of what you need to add/update as they are probably out of date :-D

If you have an MSI motherboard for example they provide a service that will retrive drivers for you, MSI live update which also finds BIOS updates if you really want them.

If you can find out any information on your new pc that would be useful, or if you can't find out what it is (Dell XPS or something), then maybe someone can take a look and help you out :dancer

No its downgrading to XP, and if your know your systems hard ware like graphics card, motherboard, ethernet, wireless, sound then google it. Also you can tell if all the drivers are installed properly if you go to the device manager (right click on my computer properties, hardware, device manager) and check if there are any unknown devices. Also if your computer is from Dell or another major manufacturer than you can go to their website and under support/drivers input your computers model and download the drivers from there. If its a custom build machine than you should know what inside so you can find the drivers, its actually pretty simple, also manufacturers include a driver CD which you can pop in and install the drivers (hey sometimes windows update has them!)

    Hi cheers for the reply.
The pc is a Pacard Bell im2415, on the packard bell website there is no drivers for xp, just for vista. I went on the packard bell forums and there was a thread with someone saying that then changed there im2415 to xp so i know it is possible.

If i post a list of my hardwear from device manager is there anychance someone can tell me what i need, or possibly find a link to the download for me?

    Cheers

This program should tell you what is on your pc....
    The mem installed...cpu...audio..vid card...Motherboard name......
Motherboard name......having this you could find all drivers faster from the boards website....

    Hi,

My problem is. I had to erase my computer completely. I've gotten most things back. Now I'm having a time trying to get one of my usb hubs to work. I have no idea if it needed a driver or not when I installed it. It has 7 ports, it is recognized but that's it. Someone let me know, okay?

Oh, I new at the Major Geek forum. Where and how can I watch to see if my question is answered?

    God Bless,
    Tom
