    Hi

Yes you can with applications such as Acronis True Image ( latest version ) or you can get the older version 8 free by registering with Acronis, http://www.acronis.co.uk/mag/pcpro/ati8pe

This application will clone the the whole hard drive and then you just need to boot to the Acronis Bootup CD and then recover the Image fle to the new hard drive, the manual to Acronis 8 http://download.acronis.com/pdf/trueimage8.0_ug.en.pdf

Do please tell us what you have tried before and why didnt it work?
What Windows version are you using?
What software have you used in the past to clone your hard drive?

just a question following on to the replies given to the OP. sorry if this is considered a hijack, but it seems silly to open another thread for a discussion which follows logically/completes this one, and which might interest the OP as well.

Is it possible, with either of these softwares, to produce that bootable image of the drive, while working from an OS that is in another drive?

In other words, say the computer has a dual boot, and I'm working on OS-A, If I download, install, and run the software, can I copy the OS-B which is sitting in another partition (but the folders of which I can access through windows explorer)? If so, will that image be bootable?

For best results, you should use a bootable application. It allows for exclusive access to both drives, and you can get a full copy that way. In addition to the programs already mentioned, here's a couple of free ones:

Do not select disk image in Acronis. That would give you a complete backup but the hd would not be bootable.
    Select Disk Clone.
After you have done this, you need to change the original hard drive from master to slave and the cloned drive from slave to master. You have to open the computer. You may hve to change jumpers on the back of both hard drives. You probably also have to change the position of the connector. Put the connector attached to old drive C onto the new drive C.
