A friend of mine passed this laptop to me to look at because he claims it's slow and has popups in IE. I reset IE settings and ran the necessary scans with logs attached. I don't really see any serious malware or viruses to speak of. He has had this machine stored for a year after it was briefly used by his cousin that he claims trashed it surfing for porn.

I removed the items that RogueKiller found and quarantined the items Malawarebytes found. I ran Hitman and did nothing but make a log. The machine doesn't have the "snap" like a new machine should. It takes times for applications to load or make changes. BTW Malwarebytes now uses an xml log instead of a text log int he default location. The file uploader wouldn't accept the xml log version so I attached a text version like the old days.

It is a like new Acer V3-551-8887 with the protective film still on it. The only security I saw was Microsoft Essentials installed 360 days from today.

I just want a set of eyes on the logs to tell me the are clean so I can give it back to him.

    Thanks,
    axlmastr

Re run Malware Bytes. Does it still find garbage? If so have it remove it.

Re run Hitman and have it remove the little it finds.

Apart from this, I'm not seeing anything to do. :)

FYI it's very very simple to export to text file.

I have attached new logs for MB and Hitman after your suggestion. I see that MB can produce text file; just getting used to the new "look" of MB that's all.

Machine ran better after "cleaning" though still acting erratic as in hardware failure. This machine is not yet 2 years old but has been packed away for 13 mos because at last use it was acting up. I ran GParted and used it's drive test because I had a hunch. This machine like many budget machines has a 1 yr warranty and usually will have budget components. The HDD is a Seagate Momentus 500GB. I have A LOT of experience with this drive failing in other machines- PC, Macbook, & Game Consoles. Sure enough it was failing! It didn't even make it through 10% of the extended test. Seagate never made 2.5" drives and just buying someone else's problems then putting your label on it is not a good way to make an impression in an already volatile arena. Seagate always made good 3.5" server and desktop drives though it has really slipped with the 2.5" market. It "gave" the product away to any OEM that would install it even though the quality wasn't up to past Seagate standards.

I managed to clone the drive to a better grade 2.5" HDD, though I would have loved to put in an SSD on this one, and now the machine is really snappy :-D

Had the machine been checked this time last year at least Acer would be replacing the HDD. Oh well....... looks like this is an easy fix. Thanks Kestrel13!..... As always MG is THE best place to get help with malware and other baddies :cool

Glad to hear things are running well. :)

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.

    7. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
