Stack Overflow

I have a friend who is not computer literate. He keeps getting 'Stack overflow at line 47' on his Dell Laptop. Then it hangs... What can I tell him please?

 

This is an error from a program being run at the time - Internet Explorer, anti-virus software, etc.
Has your friend recently updated some software?
What is running when the problem occurs?

 

Thanks, GCWesq. It seems that boot-up is ok, as is IE. My buddy is with TalkTalk, whih has an element of AOL in it. The problem started after an update to TalkTalk involving the AOL bit. It happens after input of user name and password, to access email. The progress bar never gets past 3 green segments and then the stack overflow occurs. This is as much as I can glean from my buddy.

 

There is probably a bug in that update. Try reinstalling the update as a first step.

Thanks again GCWesq, I've emailed a hard copy attachment to my friend, and suggested a system restore to a point before the update to see if this has any effect. Other than that he will have to contact TalkTalk. As I am 500 miles away there is a limit to what I can do. Thanks, MajorGeeks is GREAT!

 

That's a good start, although if it works, your friend should still try a reinstall to keep the software updated, which is important, as outdated software can be vulnerable to malware attack.
500 miles! Not exactly next door, is it!
