I went to controlPanel/Sound but didn't see anything there where i could move the volume. I can barely hear my tunes.

Do you have "Show icon in the Taskbar" selected?

One of the best features of Windows 8.1 is all you have to do is start typing while your in the metro screen to do a search. If you type Volume, you'll pull it up.

As mdonah stated, though, you should see it on your desktop screen as well if you click the little triangle arrow on the right side of your taskbar. If you don't see the icon, click customize and make sure you click show icon and notifications next to the speaker icon.
