It has been recommended to me that clearing my "RAM or Hard RAM" may help my PC's lacking speed. Can anyone instruct me on how this is done? I have one Gig of RD RAM in a Dell Demension 8100 sporting a 1.5 Ghz pentium processor, and a 256 Gforce Invida card. I hope this is enough information.

Turn off the power, and unplug. After done, open the cover and spray with Bug spray. All kidding aside, clearing the RAM happens when you power down the computer. There is no convenient way to just clear/flush RAM while the computer is processing. If there is system lag, it is possible that either you are trying to do way too much for the puny Dell to handle, and at that by what you have described, you are probably trying to play a game that your machine was not made to handle.

The programs folks have been suggesting can be found here....

The idea behind them is that programs often don't properly clear RAM when they exit and over a period of time you can end up with bits and pieces of RAM being reserved for programs that are no longer running. These programs supposedly return all those little bits and pieces back to usable system memory.

Do they work????? I'm not convinced that they do, but when I'm doing an evening of benchmarking I run one prior to each benchmark to ensure that all conditions are equal. (I think the one I've used is called Mem defrag or something like that).

Hi thanks for the reply Brownizs.... however, I am not trying to play any games. Rather just trying to access two tab simulaneously in my Firefox browser while Outlook 2003 is open. I didn't consider this too much. I used to be able to even play Halo I on this pc however it seems to be slowing with old age much like my Ex-wife.... any ideas.... on the PC that is. LOL! & thank for you input:)

Computers do not slow with age, it is just that the information on the harddrive gets out of order and needs to be Defragged, you need to do maintenance on a regular basis (disk cleanup), other then that, there should be no problems. A computer will always run at the same speed the processor is, it will not all of a sudden slow down. What will happen, though is that a user will perceive that it is slower if they have been using a faster machine.
