    I was asking this for someone I know there older then 45 yrs of age, very stress person, medications to deal with stress, burning of the throat, but they also take other medicines just fish oils and etc.. Also its a bigger person to. Anyways I got a question. This person is very poor she went to few doctors and they said hives on the body gave her some medicine or cream. They didnt work and she had this since last Aug. of last year. And its gotten so bad shes force to make an appointment with a skin doctor that they can not afford. Anyways I only seen the parts on the arms and legs but they tell me its all over the chest and stomach. But the doctor said it was hives but could be something else? I have no pictures and I was asking what people knew any links or advice from exsperience on what to do at home to try before going to skin doctor...But to me it could be hives but you can also call it rashes maybe. Its like patches all over her body and there raised up bumps in it as well. But I figure this long of a time period of hives should go away but they itch this person to death during the day and night to the point they cant sleep and aint sleeping barely. This person also got a new chair but they had switch to new chair to see but nothing eased it. Also this person has cats her whole life.. so doubt it be cats (now ) making them have issues.. Anybody know what to do for long lasting severe issue of what doctor said hives but could be something else that looks like hives and is something else? Ive seen about taking cool baths, no direct sun light, taking few meds that doesnt have to be by the doctor, and less stress and etc.. Something I thought was maybe this person just itched so badly there nails dug into there leg and arms and chest and just infected it(who knows) but there pretty bad and long lasting.

    This really is not the place to diagnose other peoples health issues. Hives in general are an allergic reaction to something. Normally one would take an anti-histamine to combat it, but if it is a heavy reaction, adrenaline is used ...for such things as bee stings. But this could be some other condition other than actual hives. It is best to get a diagnosis from a physician!!

    I have had eczema my entire adult life. It hardly ever flares up anymore because I know exactly how to manage it.

    However, if I had hives I would be back with my dermatologist in a heartbeat. Hives are far too likely to be an allergic reaction to take lightly. I know you said your friend can't afford it (my co-pay for a specialist is triple compared to seeing a general medical practitioner), but if they can get some money help to see a specialist to rule things out, that would probably be best.

    If you come back here with proof it's just a skin rash, I'll get you set up with any possible sort of home remedy you can think. But not until then. Friendly advice is no substitute for trained medical expertise.

    Well this person doesnt know if its "hives" doctor said it was and the other said go to skin doctor. But 2 doctors left and the only skin doctor is in different state(suppose to be better hospital). But the price is high and this person medical stuff won't cover or even pay for a piece of it thats why she hasnt went to a skin doctor yet. This person only get help with medicines and the other medicare or medicade one of the other wont take this person who for gay reasons. Anyways I don't know if it is hives or not.. could be something like it thats why I asked if anybody maybe had something like it or Hives themself, and see what they done at home before going to skin doctor. And they are going in 2 months(skin doctor signed them up 2 months :( ) SO until then I thought about looking online and asking this forum.

    Also sorry for big paragraphs that annoys you. I am just tring to get some relief and I know wrong forum not for doctor issues.. But they ARE going just thought Id get some home remedeys to try at home before hand.

    Have they been using some sort of different detergent when doing laundry,maybe?
    I mean, it has to be something that touches the body,I would believe.

    They've tried different soap in show and soap in the laundry area. They tried switching sheets on bed. They tried switching the chair they just got (when this 1st started) and nothing. This person got a chair from auction right when this stuff started so we thought allergic or something in it. But they switched and even stuck a cover over it for some time but maybe not long enough? Was few weeks to month.

    I don't know which insurance company your friend uses (though it sounds like quite a bad one) but most insurance providers today have websites where they list providers by zip code. He or she might be able to find a good dermatologist by looking for in-network specialists on that website. I have found specialists that way when I needed them... it's bound to be cheaper than going out of state for medical care.

    That in itself is screwed up, by the way. Tell your doctor to get his act and other parts together and find a local specialist to refer his patients to. rolleyes

    I washed a pair of jeans and a sweater in the wrong detergent by accident once--I have my own, The Guy has his own--and it resulted in what looked like severe poison ivy rash all over my body. It took two months to get rid of!!! :cry

    I never made that mistake again...

    Well I wont go into how long and the rest of this person life she will have to live crappy due to Gov. But like anyone knows when your disable cant work or do a single thing and are on meds and have no money you should get medicade and medicare.. Well this person has the one that helps with medicine only.. and they pay "most of the time" monthly battle each month (stress monthy) cause of it. But this person has to take car of themself and 2 people so total of 3 on a 800 dollars a month from Goverment disability... and even with the 800 bucks and the 3 people living there.. she STILL doesnt get help. She just got denied again for assistance on bills.. She applies constantly and Gov says she makes to much.. and link even says no again cause we share a fridge.. but its 3 people with 1 income.. and a huge house and new car and insurance.. so wtf goverment.. But no Gov or her thing has said no with assistance with anything. this person has been through surgerys and other things and still not a single co pay even paid..

  12. I've had hives due to a serious allergic reaction to a sting from a yellow jacket. Longest ten hours of my life. Now twenty years later, it has happened twice in two months with no stings. I found relief from the itch with cool baths; you may also try mixing a paste of rose water and cornstarch for relief of the itch.
    Suggestions to stop the problems: try different laundry soaps; use body soaps for sensitive skin; allergies can develop at anytime during your life--just because you weren't allergic to cats last month, doesn't mean you aren't this month; removing the cats after all this time won't really help though as if they've been in the house for any length of time, it is going to take a really long time to get all trace of them out of the house; check for any new foods that have been eaten since this started; anything that is new to the person since this began. Yes, hives can also be a nervous reaction, so stress may be a trigger.
    One other thing too that is recommended (old recipe) for itch with chicken pox and/or measles is an oatmeal bath. Anything to ease the itch until the two months is up and she can see a dermatologist. DO NOT give any oral medications unless directed or prescribed by a doctor!!! Good luck, when they I hit, I scratch until I bleed. No point in refraining when I'm awake as the minute I fall asleep I dig the skin right off anyway.
    Here is a site that will give you a little more insight into the nature and causes of hives. It looked pretty informative to me.

    Thank you both for the links. Like I said I know wrong forum(may get deleted little later) but I just was tring to find if someone had experienced it or something like it. And what they done at home for maybe some help to get rid of. Just something else that stinks maybe is like the changing soups, bed sheets, chair to see if maybe those are the things causing it.. I truly dont know if it was "long enough time with each change" Like I know it was pretty bad case of hives or whatever it is.. and maybe a month or 2 months max of change isn't enough time to see if it helps or not.. I don't know. I just know digging isnt helping this person and its daily and nightly digging. Hopefully I get some info for this person relief!

    Hives should NEVER last that long, and changing things like soap, detergent, etc. should help within a week. Rather than a dermatologist, she should make an appointment with an allergist. The test is not really that expensive if you compare it to living with hives for almost a year. I would have shot myself between the eyes long before now if it was me.

    Mine come from a severe allergic reaction to certain foods, and only Benadryl helps (even though I take a daily allergy pill, if I expose myself to the things I'm allergic to I'll have a reaction).

    If she is going to change soap, have her use something completely without dyes or perfumes. Ditto laundry detergent. She should get the furniture steam-cleaned, and rewash all towels, bedding, etc. Simply changing the sheets and covering the chair is not enough.

    But really, she should see an allergist for testing. She can call ahead to find out how much it costs, and save the money. I know how hard it is to be sick without insurance, but some things you have to suck up and pay for. Like I said, there is no way hives should have been a continuous problem since last August.

    As TimW said, we cannot diagnose nor treat anyone's medical problems here. Your friend really, really needs to see an allergist. If the problem is not allergies, then she should see a real doctor, not just one at a clinic whose answer is to hand you a tube of cream or a vial of pills for everything. For short-term relief, she should take cool baths with baking soda in the water...works for chicken pox! :)

    There's certain meds that can give hives as a side effect along with the 'burning feeling' in the throat. Studying the current meds they're taking on the 'net could give a clue and food can also cause both. Good luck man!

  17. Hi Silas;
    I agree completely with Sgt. Tibbs, I would have shot myself a long time ago. The itch isn't something that is relieved by scratching. It's one of those things that's just under the skin, but scratch is all you can do. My God, that poor woman. I didn't realize that the problem had been an issue since last August. Hives have a shelf life of about six weeks tops.
    I will say though that I have been for allergy tests, and they tested for everything under the sun except the thing I knew I was allergic to. The test consists of ten rows and ten columns of pin pricks down the back that have different possible allergy causing substances. You wait about a week for the results.
    I am very hesitant to recommend any oral medications; as others have stated here, I too am not in any way connected with the medical field. I might suggest a site though, it's called 'Just Answer.' It does cost for a response, but the site does have professionals, the cost is anywhere from $15 and up for a response (Paypal or Credit Card). You have the option to accept or reject an answer. I would advise refusing any answer or turning down anyone who says they'll answer, that doesn't come from someone listed as Sgt. Tibbs said, and allergist, or as others have suggested, a dermatologist. Can't hurt to give them a shot.
    Outline the situation as accurately as possible in point form; include as much information as possible, and they're pretty quick to get back to you with someone in the field you are searching. Best I can do man, sorry.

    Well I got some not good news. I researched and did some reading on your links last night. Figure this person had the chronic worst ones of hives myself.. 6 wks or more (time period). But I called this person and I was about to talk to this person about some info and medicines and just talk about some changes to do. Then this person said I ended up going to the dermotologist this last friday. This person said to the doctor if when she set up her meeting for next month. She said if you get any cancelations call me and Ill come in (its just to bad for them daily) and they called and this person went up there next day. Well they did few things and couple test (sent to lab) they dont know "what exactly it is" since test isnt back to comfirm but what the guy did put this peson on was stuff for a thing called staff infection maybe. Doctor said it could of been just dry skin and hives back in Aug of last year and from the long time of diggin got to be a staff infection maybe. So they put this person on cream called clobetasol cream (hope I spelled right) and propionate (if I spelled it right) suppose to be creams I guess.. Then they also stuck this person on few meds called hydrooxyzine 3 times a day and doxycycleyn 2 times a day and told her to use dove soap for dry skin.

  19. :( I've had some pretty bad experiences with prescriptions given me by different doctors in the past. The problems always stem from the fact that the doctor is too damned busy to tell a person what these drugs can possibly do to you. They are in too much of a hurry to explain and depend on your gratefulness for any relief. I take nothing I don't know without looking it up first. At least that way I know what to expect if something goes wrong. You may want to ask your friend if her doctor told her any of the following information.
    I would strongly advise you to check out the following sites. Make sure you read what each drug is and all of the possible side effects.

    You need a new doctor. Mine asked me what I thought I was allergic to, and included those things in the test. Things I minorly reacted to on my back they then retested on my inner arms. It also took less than a half hour to get the results for everything they tested, and some less than five minutes. It's a physical reaction to the pinpricks and nothing that requires lab work.

    Well I wasnt with this person when it was done at the place. They said they looked at it and took some test on it to be sent to the lab. This person went friday.. and still no word(so must be taking some time). I just hope that this person isnt has bad as it seems...

  22. Hi Sgt. Tibbs;
    That was over thirty years ago and I did tell my doctor what I was allergic to but he told me that they didn't have a sample to test for that. He sure surprised me with several items I was allergic to though.
    Mostly I've ignored them and haven't had a problem. The main allergy is bee stings which almost killed me on a hunt in the mountains in 1989. Yes, I have had adrenaline shots for bee stings in the city, but up north here, the potentency of the venom is multiplied greatly due to the lack of pollution that you would find in a city; pollution dilutes the venom. I was fortunate that our hunter was a doctor from the United States. He saved my life on that day. I had no idea how bad it was until I got stung. In the city it was just bad swelling and a sting in the chest required adrenaline. Up here and eight hours into the mountains on horseback with no contact with the outside world at all, is when I had the worst ten hours of my life. Of course I went on the next hunt.
    My other allergy is metal and that was the one that the city doctor couldn't test for. Didn't really matter as I basically already knew that I was.

  23. I just hope that this person's doctor pointed out the possible side effects of the first drug. They rarely do until it's too late. At least they should give the patient the option to decide if they want to take the risk or not.

    :-D I dont laugh cause I dont take it serious. I laugh cause this person on more then what they should be taking already(doctor given). But hey got to deal with things with pills sometime when life aint working out to make you less stressful(darn gov).

  25. Hi Sgt. Tibbs;
    Must admit that if my doctor here didn't overfill me with benzodiazepines, I'd be a basket case by now. LOL
    But, I'm done with hives. All this talk is making me itchy. Think I'll go soak in the tub.
    Good luck Silas

    Silas,
    Google "hives and mms". Very interesting. I can personally vouch for it's effectiveness.
