MMC could not create the snap-in

Error when launching Windows Firewall

I installed gpedit.msc from online copied the GroupPolicy, GroupPolicyUsers and gpedit.msc from SysWOW64 to System32 and edited the x64.bat file using the Administrator login and then ran the installer.exe both from window>temp>gpedit

still getting the error.

Check for this:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ MMC \ SnapIns \ FX: {b05566ad-fe9c-4363-BE05-7a4cbb7cb510}

If it exists back this key up, then delete it, and try running mmc again.

This may require a reboot.

 

Hi, thanks for the advice. I backed up my entire registry and the file you suggested and this other one individually.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ MMC \ SnapIns \ FX: {b05566ad-fe9c-4363-BE05-7a4cbb7cb510}

and

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ MMC \ SnapIns \ FX: {b05566ac-fe9c-4368-BE02-7a4cbb7cbe11}

I deleted them both, starting with the one you suggested then the second one suggested by the program, tried to run the windows firewall advanced once again, and the error still comes up

 

huh,... after doing the above and reinstalling gpedit from the windows temp folder using Administrator login, I solved part of the problem. Now when I run gpedit.msc, it comes up as it should, without the error, however, the firewall advanced continues to have the error.

I'm going to delete the entire MMC folder from the registry and reinstall gpedit and see what happens then.
But first... back up the registry again!

 

Can you bring up any other snapins okay? Do you have the windows firewall service running?

 

What else uses snap-ins?
Everything else appears ok.

 

I restored to an earlier image of my drive and installed gpedit.msc.

Here, windows firewall is working well, but the gpedit.msc window has the MMC could not create the snap-in error
