ok this is going to be my first time making my own build and i heard its best to tackle your 1st time with some help. since i have no buds that take an interest in computers i am kind of at loss. i checked what i knew for compatibility, but i may have missed something when looking at power or something. i dont trust myself in such an expensive situation.

1st thing is first. are these parts compatible?

    mobo+cpu combo

    Case+psu

is the power supply more than neccesary?

    sound card
    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3594531&CatId=2771

is this too much? all i want to do is make sure i can play all games, i dont really care about the quality. other options cost 20-40 dollars less.

    vid card

this is pretty nice for the price but will it really last me, or send me for an upgrade in a year or 2? (looking at the shaders which i here so much about)
or should i aim higher? CoD4 is included.
i will go higher if i have to. i seen some other options that werent that for away from this when speakin of price.

    RAMx2

do i really need 4g? or is 2 more than enough

    Hard Drive(seems reliable enough)

    cooling
    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...tails.asp?EdpNo=3302740&csid=ITD&body=REVIEWS

heard this helps but it takes up a lot of space+ would it provide cooling for whole computer(including graphics card, RAM,etc) or just a specific area?
would i be better off with air cooling(less costly)

i am also definitely getting one cd drive from my old premade HP computer
and have the option for a second dvd drive.

assuming i am using the case posted(may change if PSU is overkill)
will all the stuff fit? cooler is recommend to take 3 spots+cd drive+maybe dvd drive.

and will the case give me all cables needed(some stuff is OEM which i found means it doesnt include cables)?

sorry i know i got a lot going on here put im trying to make sure this works out perfectly.=/

Unless you plan on using a 64bit operating system, 4gb of RAM will not be fully addressed. It's an architectural limitation of 32bit operating systems that they can only address 3.2gb of memory, even if you had 16gb installed, only 3.2gb would be actively used, and the rest would just sit there, doing nothing. The power supply should be OK, but if you add a 2nd video card for SLI, you will need to upgrade it. The sound card is unnecessary; modern motherboards have excellent audio built-in, and since you're not running a home music recording studio, the 7.1 digital audio built in to the motherboard should be just fine. And, in my opinion, the water cooling isn't really needed unless you're doing some CRAZY over-clocking. Air cooling has improved by leaps and bounds and you can still get a good overclock with air cooling. I see no reason to add a CD drive, regular CD drives are borderline obsolete. With DVD burners being so inexpensive, you should just grab one (or two). I personally use an older CDRW in addition to a new DVDRW, mainly because I have the need to burn certain things at very slow speeds, and the new DVD burners generally will not burn slower than 8x (sometimes I need 4x or 2x). Other than these points, everything looks good to me...

    :-D

    I hope this helps!

CPU is way overpriced $189 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115036. You can most likely find a better deal on a mobo as well.

For the video card, why not get a 9800... http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3732815&Sku=P56-9802

I agree with dlb, air would be my preference of cooling. If you want to go water, don't get a kit, spec out the stuff yourself, will be cheaper and much better.

I use the onboard sound. I can't tell the difference, but some people swear by their sound cards... You could save a few bucks and try the onboard, and add a soundcard if you need one.

    Have fun!

wow my eyes are bulging at how much money i could have wasted. That's a big saver thanks!

and Im glad I don't need to install a audio card, i heard those bad boys cause a LOT of problems when trying to build.

actually that vid card was my alternative..so i guess i will go for it.

now the only reason i got the cooling kit was because i am no expert at building and cooling by far, so could anyone point out some fans that i need that would make sure evrything is cool? i heard of cpu fans, heat sinks, and even fans made for graphix cards!
(i didnt know the small things could get so hot) (i have been gaming with integrated graphics, no need to show pity)

any suggestions on what to get for optimal performance(quiet is an added bonus but not necessary)
oh and the case comes with some built in already.

And i want as much memory as i can get, so how do i pick out a final gb of ram if the other 2 are dual channel? just pick an brand as long as they have same mhz? or should i get 512mb dual channel over 1gb?

thanks soo much for the suggestions so far. This is turning out to be a fun experience(as long as I don't think about the total $) xD lol.

i dont know how to edit sorry, but i found this other board i was looking at before until it was sold out on newegg.com

its FSB was 1600/1333mhz, and supported ddr3 ram of up to 1600mhz.

would this be a problem since its faster than the 1333mhz core?

Post a link to the board.

For cooling the CPU, I like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835109125 Not the cheapest, and I have heard some of them need a good lapping, but that is not very hard. You will need a 120mm fan for it.

If you are not overclocking, all the stock fans on the mobo and GPU should be ok.
