Just checking out old posts for duplicate file finders.
Easy Cleaner is a duplicate Registry entry finder.

I'm after a good duplicate FILE folder, if anyone can recommend some.
I've got hundreds of duplicate DLL's that I want to rationalise. Bazza

    BEWARE deleting duplicate files!
Unless you KNOW what you are deleting you can really mess yourself up....I've done it.
    I wouldn't TOUCH anything in the System32 Folder...for sure.

It is a lot more flexible than I first thought.
I'm still coming to grips with all its' capabilities.
It sure finds plenty of deliberate programmers duplicates.
ATI Technologies and variants of Toshiba, being the major instigators.
More of that later in other threads. Bazza

PS: For example, I just got rid of 7,000+ files in ATI.
Not needed as they are in languages other than English.

How, pray tell, does a mere mortal know what duplicate files can be safely deleted?

Many photo management programs like to make duplicate files. If I were eliminating duplicates, I would start with the .jpg files, their big and easily found. I seen machines with 3 copies of each.

From there I would work to finding duplicate .txt, .doc,. wps, .wks. In other words, personal data duplicates.

I'd stay clear of deleting .dll files, there may be a lot of them, but you would be taking a chance with these.:wave:wave:wave

brandypeppy makes a good point- removing dupes of files with non-critical extensions is a great way to start. Set up the extension filter in the program for the extensions above plus you can add .AVI, .MPEG, .MPG, .TMP, .LOG, and probably .BAK too. Even though they don't take up any significant space, you might want to check for empty folders too. They add to the 'clutter' on your PC and require a 'header' which prevents hard drive optimization when defragging.
