I was using the 1.05 version of Ad-Aware and began having this problem, and after upgrading to 1.06 it is still persisting. When I perform a Full System Scan then the program will crash at the folder:

    C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download\6ca7b3a8efd5a9b6f87fff395a2eb989\backup\asms\70\msft\windows

I've had this happen around 10-12 times now, and I've even let it run overnight for 10 hours or so and it won't complete. It will show the critical objects found, but I can't delete or view them because Ad-Aware basically freezes on the above mentioned folder. I went into the folder and found nothing in there so I deleted it, and then the same thing would happen with other folders within the "6ca7b3a8efd5a9b6f87fff395a2eb" folder. I found a similar post that a user named Grekis posted a while ago, and I believe I must have the same problem. I performed the 4 steps that you recommended to him, and I encountered the same problem I had with Ad-Aware with the windowsecurity TrojanScanner - this time it would crash at C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download\6ca7b3a8efd5a9b6f87fff395a2eb989\dfrgfat.exe. I have also began receiving error messages since this happened such as "I/O error 23" or c00000006 or something like that. Could this be related?

Did you and Grekis ever find out the problem? Do you have any suggestions of what I should try? Thank you.

Grekis never came back to complete working on this. I would guess you may have one of three problems that could be causing this (neither of which is a malware problem)

    - a hard disk or file allocation error - run scandisk or a disk error check (you never gave your OS)
    - fragmented disk - run defrag on this drive
    - a registry corruption problem - try the below

    Download RegSupreme Pro 1.1

Install this program, after you install you will be prompted to "defrag" you registry for best performance. Go ahead and click YES, should take but a minute or so.

After this completes at the top, click the REGISTRY CLEANER tab. Then click on "Aggressive" and let it scan. Afterwards you will see the total of invalid entries found. Once its complete, select ALL entries and select FIX. The program will then fix the ones that are fixable, the ones that are not will be removed. Type in a backup filename and save to an easy location just in case we run into any problems.

After you fix the invalid entries, reboot and scan again with Ad-Aware and see if it still freezes.
