If you have not read the Majorgeeks front page yet then, heads up, from Feb 3rd a particually nasty little virus is set to unleash its plan and wipe all you Office and PDFs from your HD, so keep your AV upto date and scan before Feb 3rd.

I`d like to think that anyone that is computer-savvy knows better than to open unsolicited attachments, particularly those promising "free" stuff, especially porn. I guess it furthers my point that being cautious has kept me to just one virus all these years, while I know many people with gestapo-type security precautions being invaded somewhat regularly. No, wait...I should have said...just one harmful virus. That one was a big pain in the ass, and I learned my lesson then.

For a sneaky minute I thought you had mitted the BBC weblink ;)

I e-mailed it to my son and husband at home......thankfully they aren't into porn, but who knows what other ways these virus crackpots will come up with to entice someone to open e-mail.

    Good call Halo :)

*grabs coat, runs out into the pouring Oregon rain in the pitch black, legs it 2 miles up the road to the nearest Dutch Bros, orders D3 the largest fully loaded richest most expensive coffee with extra squirty cream, runs back (this is in 4" heels ya realize!), bursts into D3's office dripping wet, places coffee on desk infront of him and says " I'm sorry" *

    :D

I might need you...found Sasser on my old PC last night....muahahahah...I know what I'm doing *gets screwdriver* ;)

That's the trouble with preparing your computers for Feb 3rd....you find other stuff you didn't know about. I used to have Norton AV on the machine, but as it expired in december and Norton slows this particular system down so much, I installed Avast. I have to say when I tried it a couple of years ago I hated it. Now I love it. It's finding stuff Norton never did.

So, anyone preparing for Feb 3rd needing a great free AV tool, Avast is the biz :)

I'm more worried about the nasty virus that's making my head hurt this morning and will probably explode tomorrow into some dreaded lurgy.

I need to update my brain's AV scanner I think ;)

Thats what I'm waiting for our network to grind to a halt, did last month when some PCs in the none critical areas, must have had a zombie infestation as the network users went up at an alarming rate ( 2000+ users, when normal users are 600+ and never over 800 ) and the internet access out of the building ground to a halt for a few hours.

I have warned our IT dept on this, so I know at least the secure side I'm on is fully upto date with AV and most of our stuff is not stored on C: drives but generally resides on secure restricted drives.

Shouldnt be at my workplace as they know about it and been updating and scanning PCs, but it will affect some no doubt of that, but I dont see it being on the scale of Blaster/Sasser etc.

Early updates, say its not affecting as much as thought, which mean's the better we are all informed about the upcomming risks the better.... as this one was given press time it most likely spurred a few users who dont normally look after there security measures to act, saving them some grief.

I'm at a loss to understand what these maggots get from writing this crap.

Then again, I don't understand graffiti.

Not heard one person who's been affected. Not even my school, and the admins are borderline pathetic there.
