Searching for Win 98SE audio drivers for Compaq Presario. Case says CM1001. Not having much luck on the Compaq site or elsewhere.
    Anyone have some suggestions?

(PS I moved a hard drive from a Celron 550 with Windows and prgrams installed. It booted fine with the exception of these devices in Device Manager. Installed a driver which must not have been correct. It won't complete a bootup now. It will in safe mode)
How do I get around that?

    Thanks

I'm guessing from having an old Compaq from about 2000 with Win 98SE and looking at a pic of your motherboard on EBay. I think you need ESSOLO drivers. Try this procedure:

    Procedure from this website: http://www.esstech.com/techsupp/faq-identify.shtm

    Download drivers from here: http://www.esstech.com/techsupp/drivers.shtm

I think you have 1969 drivers because these were what I needed on my old Presario when installing XP.

As far as the Safe Mode problem try going to Control Panel->System->Hardware->Audio->Delete the driver you tried to install
    Restart in Normal mode
Then try installing your new ESS driver.

    OK will do those steps.
AFA the boot problem I managed to figure out how work my way through that by doing the steps you listed.

    Thanks

Sorry, The picture of your motherboard looked like it had an ESS chip on it. I was fairly sure my advice would help. What audio driver did you originally try to install? I can't seem to find CM1001 on the HP.com website.

Yes found it now and yes it is working. Have sound. :)

    Thanks for the assistance.

BTW, it is a ES1938/ES1946 sound card as pointed out at the beginning. The first program didn't find it.

Now I'm trying to get the modem that came with the system to work. It's a GVC Model F:1156/V/R9

Not much luck finding drivers for it either. I ended up here but found no file:

This thing has been a real test of patience.
