Can I be done now?

I swear, if it wasn't for bad luck...

Last week I find out a friend's dad has cancer of everything and they gave him ~4 months. Friday I find out my best friend's parents' best friend died of complications from Parkinson's. Saturday a good friend's sister was killed in a car accident. Luckily, her 11-month-old son who was also in the car was saved by his car seat. Yesterday my niece's mother-in-law was taken to the hospital after her second set of tiny strokes in two weeks. Today I find out my dad fell again, and while he's basically fine other than some bruising, they're now talking about getting 24/7 in-home nursing care because my stepmom can't be right next to him all the time (he has Parkinson's and Alzheimer's-spectrum dementia). And now my laptop is telling me my hard drive is about to fail and I should stop using it until I replace it. Meanwhile, I've been working 60-80 hour weeks since mid-October and I don't see it letting up until the weekend before Christmas.

    I'm all done. :crybaby

I've had bad luck in the past ( not as bad as you), but in order to keep my sanity, I thought of all the good things in my life.

I hope you can as well - and best wishes.

Crikey Tibbs.... You must have backed over a chinaman.... you better find him and apologise profusely to turn this bad luck around ;)
Joking aside cripes, that is a bad little stretch in your life. Hopefully things have bottomed out now and the only thing left is steady improvement :)
Dealing with all this sadness and grief in such a short time period must be mind numbing. I'll send some of my best thoughts your way and I hope there is no more bad news on the horizon :-D

Have some bright cyber tulips to cheer you up :-D

For the last few months, every day I find at least three (but up to however many I can think of) positive things and post them as my Facebook status. It seems to help. And even through this I'm finding them, although I sometimes have to stretch a bit. My life's philosophy is, "You can either find something to laugh about, or you can shoot yourself in the head," and I don't own a gun so laughter it is. Or something. But my positives for today include my boss at the website telling me he's sending me a HD, a USB enclosure, and a cloning software disc along with something to consolidate my backed up files which are spread across about 10 flash drives.

Lovely flowers, joffa, thank you! :)

Musksnipe, this morning all we had was about 1/4 inch on the grass and the roads were still clear, but it's been snowing all day and around 6:00 tonight the lake effect started to hit us. It's now piling up on roads as well. We darn near spun sideways crossing the river on the way home a little before 7.

You are most welcome and I am glad it gave you a lift :-D
After all the sad things going on, it's good to hear you still have an optimistic outlook on life and still look for the good things in your day :-D
    Kudos to you :-D:cool
I'm sending nice thoughts and you can have some of our hot weather too :cool

The answer, as it turns out, was that was the beginning of what would be an astronomically bad stretch of luck.

Since then, a friend died for no good reason any medical person could find a week after her 42nd birthday the day before Thanksgiving. The next day, another friend lost his battle with cancer. The day of my first friend's funeral, I found out another friend also lost her battle with cancer. And then a co-worker's dad died. Followed by a friend's dad dying. And then about an hour ago I found out a good friend, who I briefly sort-of dated and who I loved dearly, and who surpassed his original given time frame when they diagnosed his inoperable brain tumor, who slipped into a coma yesterday morning, passed away. Meanwhile I've still been doing 60-80 hours a week at work.

Did I mention I am done with this $%&@!! Dear Universe, enough is enough. Seriously. There is only so much one can take, and I am out of the ability to handle anything.

Hey Beth, I'm thinking of you right now. I have somewhat of a kindred spirit, I guess, with my run in life and death. Often thought why the Hell I should be the one that it seems everyone is either leaving permanently or dying off. Had the 'Grim Reaper' diagnosis o six months 26 years ago. The Reaper's still trying, but he aint won, yet, lol.
I just try to remember that even with all it's disappointment, sham, drudgery and cruelty, life is still a beautiful place to live. (Though hard to keep in mind at times, I'll admit).
That, even though life is more that a little blue at the moment, there is often beauty, noble self-sacrifice and honour around us. - If we can only relax long enough to look.
Underneath the blue haze of sadness is the beauty within.....or some such, ;)
    ...Group hug time!..

I'm finally home from work, and now I've settled into my chair with a couple of bottles of beer where I plan to let myself feel for a while. Sometimes you just have to have a good cry.

Crikey Sgt. Tibbs this bad run is not letting up :(
Hmmm might be best to wipe this year off and start afresh in 2015 ;)

A bit more cheering up is needed so I've gone all out and got flowers with a rainbow :-D
Imagine you are lounging on a deck chair in this field with a beer in hand :cool

oh and I'll have a few beers with you....... they are already on ice :drink

You will have to drink my share coz I have a kidney infection at the moment so after one beer I will be back on the water ;)

Cheer up and remember you are not alone as MGs are here for you :major

Throwing another hug in in between yours and Fred's groping. :-D

Seriously, it sounds like you've had an incredibly shitty couple of months, Beth. I would hope that the only way it's gotta go for you right now is up. Surround yourself with those wonderful kids of your sister's.

Don't forget to have chocolate as well, if you have any handy.

Yes, have a good cry, let it all out, and then take a deep breath and regroup. And let that take as long as it takes. We're not going anywhere. Not alone, remember? :)

Things you cannot make up: There was another one Tuesday that I didn't learn about until yesterday. Long time board member at the first community theatre where I worked.

There are three visitations Friday and three funerals Saturday. Saturday I'm working 8am - midnight, and Friday I'm taking Laura's advice and spending the entire day with my niece and her kids. In lieu of standing around funeral homes bawling my eyes out, I'm choosing to snuggle and tickle and giggle with kids and a dog. The families will understand.

Holy wow! That sure is a ton of stuff do deal with at one time, but if anyone can, you can.

I agree with your philosophy about laughter as well, but its def hard to keep that going when all things seem to be crumbling around you for sure.

Head up though, you will pull through and survive.

    I know this why?

Because we all love you, thats why!

Thoughts, prayers, positive energy, hugs and condolences to all involved.
