    Hey Guys

I recently posted in the software section to try and solve this issue to no avail.

They asked me to run the Malware removal too as well and then directed me here..

I am wondering what this thing is that is on my desktop... I also noticed it on my dads... thought it might be a software issue... you can click on it and move it, but thats all.. nothing opens up... cant right click on it....

I will attach the logs from Malware Removal logs too...

    My system is
    Dell Inspiron 5010 Intel i3 2.53ghz
    SP 1
    6Gb Ram
    64 bit os
    360gb hdd
    Win 7

Will have to attach screen shots in another message

    Cheers

Strange, it looks like the "C" for Comodo.... checking logs now.. :)

Uninstall Comodo Dragon please reboot, and let me know if it's gone away from the desktop.

Also, Hitman Proshows traces of garbage which must be removed in case it causes any issues in future.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

Re run Hitman and attach new log.

How do you feel about deleting these yourself from the Windows Registry? You should get a Firewall installed now also.

    Hey Kestrel

I wouldnt know how to delete them from the reg myself... but if i had instructions on how to do it then i could do it...
I have enough knowledge to navigate to where i need to be.. just am not an expert on the inner workings of the registry...

I will look for a new firewall now :)

    Cheers

Can i quickly ask... do i include REDEDIT4?

It is REGEDIT4, but yes you need that line but nothing above it. Not even a blank line!

  11. TheTick

    TheTick Corporal

OK something weird happened where i wrote a response yesterday and today its not here... Must have exited before posting..

First i did the REGEDIT4 merge and it i got a message saying it was complete...

However i came across an issue with the hitman log... I re ran it and it seems to have found some issues.. I think they came from a link i clicked on out of interest that downloaded a program to my desktop.. This was while my firewall and antiV was disabled... just didnt think, so i do apologise :(

Here is the new hitman log

Hope you guys can find the time to help

Please download a fresh copy of AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop.

    • Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
    • Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator
    • Click on the Scan button.
    • AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
    • After the scan has finished, click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R#].txt) will open in Notepad for review (where the largest value of # represents the most recent report).
    • The contents of the log file may be confusing. Unless you see a program name that you know should not be removed, don't worry about it. If you see an entry you want to keep, let me know about it.
    • Attach the logfile to your next next reply.
    • A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which was created when running the tool.

[IMG] Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.

    Download and run OTM.

Download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.

    • Run OTM.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).
    • Paste the following code under the [IMG] area. Do not include the word Code.
    Code:
    :reg

    [Reboot]
    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
    • Push the large [IMG] button.
    • OTM may ask to reboot the machine. Please do so if asked.
    • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar), and paste it into notepad, save it as something appropriate and attach it into your next reply.

NOTE: If you are unable to copy/paste from this window (as will be the case if the machine was rebooted), open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and attach the contents of that document back here in your next post.

    Hi Kestrel

No worries dude... take all the time you need to help others... Its much appreciated :)

I have completed the steps that you suggested...

I have recently installed Private Firewall so am a bit new to it... I am pretty sure it was disabled as nothing clashed or happened, just aware JRT needed it disabled.

With regards to the Adware program, i didnt see anything of note that i wanted to keep, Also you didnt specify whether you wanted me to clean what was found so i just left it.. and will attach the report..

    JRT ran fine...

The OTM Program ran fine also and i have a log.. The only thing i noticed was after the reboot when you said:
'Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar), and paste it into notepad, save it as something appropriate and attach it into your next reply.'
there was no green bar, after the reboot notepad opened and had the information in it... so will have to attach that

    Cleano seemed to run ok.

And here are the logs from Hitman

Thanks for your help and time :)

    Dudette actually. ;)

Right, Adwcleaner didn't find anything. So nothing to worry about there.

Only thing I see left to do is what Hitman keeps showing: None of the fixes I have tried will remove them, so running out of options. Please understand it's not malware per se, it's junkware.
Do you think you'd be able to open up the Windows Registry and manually delete these in bold? You would simply click start button, type in regedit, right click on regedit.exe and run as admin. Navigate to the embolded items just like you would using Windows Explorer to find a file or folder... Let me know if you feel up to it?

    Hi Kestrel

LOL i figured you might be a lady... I call almost everyone dude... just always have, sorry if it offended :( lol

I feel comfortable navigating around my system, just when i tried to look at the files you suggested i could not find the HKLM part... its all HKEY.
    This is what i did...
Click start - Type REGEDIT - Right Click - Run as Admin

And it brought up the regedit... but was HKEY

Just wanted to let you know

I will post a screen shot for you to look at

    Cheers

Kestrel13! Super Malware Fighter - Major Dilemma Staff Member

    No problem!!! :)

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.

    7. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
