I hope that I am posting this in the right section and have not overlooked any other thread that addresses my problem.
I developed a malware issue the morning of 12/31. It was Malware Defender and was trying to hold my laptop up for ransom. I used Spyware Doctor and it located 58 files, I believe, and deleted them.
During the reboot process, a blue screen showed with a Page Fault In A No Page Area notice The stop code was 0x00000050 (0xAA4C201C, 0x00000000, 0xAFD14E3F, 0x00000000).
I believe that was the only time that particular notice showed. Subsequently, I have seen the blue screen with a Bad Pool Header notice. The codes on this notice are 0x00000019, 0x00000020, 0x86583750, 0x86583808, 0x0A170082.
The laptop will continue to reboot and dump and reboot, etc. in a continuous loop unless interrupted.
At first, it would never get to the point of showing my background and desktop icons before showing the notice. The last two times, it did get to the point of showing all of the icons before going back into the loop.
I have started in safe mode and tried to locate a log to see what files Spyware Doctor deleted but I can find no log or any files in a quarantine.
I am running Windows XP Professional on a Thinkpad T61.

You guys do an incredible job and I am hoping that someone will be able to assist me.
Thank you - and Happy New Year.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Since you imply you can boot in safe mode, have you simply tried using System Restore to return to a point before running Spyware Doctor? If not, give that a try and let us know what happens. Typically error messages like you are reporting are a sign of registry corruption.

Thank you for your reply. I am unable to boot in safe mode. It asks me for user ID and password. When I enter my normal info, it says that the info is invalid.
However, I am able to boot in safe - networking mode with that same user ID and password. When I attempt system restore in safe - network mode using system restore wizard, I am able to highlight the date of the restore point I want to use. This takes me to the confirmation page showing the appopriate date. I click on next to confirm and start the wizard. Then nothing happens, windows doesn't shut down and the page never changes. The next box shows a highlight around it so it would appear that the click is registering but that is all. Nothing else happens.
I am not sure what to do next and appreciate your interest and assistance.
    Thank you.

    • Can you run Spyware Doctor and have it undo whatever you had it delete?
    • Or try clicking Start, Run, and enter sfc /scannow and click OK. There is a space after the sfc. This runs System Rile Checker which looks for missing or corrupted system files and attempts to replace/repair them from files on your hard disk or from the CD if necessary. So it will ask for the Windows CD if it needs it.
    • Or try booting into normal mode on another user account if you have one. If that works, your user account most likely has registry corruption. If it has the same problem, you may have deleted required system files which the running of sfc typically can solve.
If none of the above help, you will have to try the below:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;307545&sd=tech

You will have to continue in the Software Forum with this since at this point, you are not having malware problems. You are having boot problems with Windows which are typically due to registry corruption or due to necessary files being deleted.
