I have experienced a very sluggish computer lately, it has crashed multiple times, my internet browser is running extremely slow. I have followed the instructions for virus removal, but haven't had any success, I ran Ad Aware, only picked up 29 files, ran register mechanic, ran CC cleaner removed 88.5 mb of cookies, ran spyblaster. This was all done in safe mode, then I ran Spyware Doctor, got nothing. I rebooted and is still very sluggish.

I was noticing for a while that when I was surfing the internet my cursor would disappear from time to time I don't know if this means anything to you guys.

    Please follow the steps below:

    - Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

    - Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps below:

    - Download HijackThis 1.99.1

    - Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

    - Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file.

    - Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

    - Run HijackThis and save your log file.

    - Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next message. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post).

First you have 2 Anti-Virus programs installed, uninstall one of them; either eTrust EZ Antivirus or AVG, use only one AV program.

Second you have 2 Firewalls installed, uninstall one of them; either eTrust EZ Firewall or ZoneAlarm, use only one software firewall.

    Have HJT fix the following:
Remove this from the Internet Explorer Trusted Zone:
I see no signs in your log that you ran any of the requested scans in our READ ME FIRST. After you have done the fixes above, go back and complete all the steps in the READ ME FIRST as requested.

After you have completed all that post a fresh HJT log as an attachment.

Everything was going ok until I did the online scan. It was scanning and was about 50% done when it suddenly said it was completed. I tried to click a link when I noticed the internet had crashed on me. I am currently broadband, my physical connection to the hardware was fine, but I had no connection. The only way it came back was when I rebooted my computer. I had done everything else I was suppossed to until running the scan. I have the exported file report from the bitdefender scanner I'll attach it if you want to look at that as well.

One other thing, I know I have EZ firewall, but I don't know where to find Zone Alarm. I tried to find it doing a windows explorer file search but came up empty. Would you know where to look so I can uninstall this?

Here's my HJT log file after the scan:

Disreguard the vsmon service looks to be part of your firewall. Your loog looks pretty descent I see no signs of an infection.

You should have HJT fix the following:

ran HJT and fixed the ones you wanted. I tried to find that missing file (Service X10) but couldn't find it on Windows file search so I had it fixed, I don't think it got rid of it though because I did another scan after I had deleted everything and that came up again.

I looked in the control panel for ZoneAlarm but I couldn't find it. I looked at every program on the list, but I did not see any ZoneAlarm. Other than that the other items you wanted fixed seem to have been fixed.

ok, I did like you said and when I deleted the x10 using the misc tools, it said to reboot so I rebooted and took a fresh scan, no x10 anymore. Must have worked. here's my new log

Do you think I'm alright with that ZoneAlarm or what can be done about that?

    OK, your log looks good.

From what I can tell eTrust EZ Firewall must be a licenced/branded version of ZoneAlarm. So, I wouldn't worry about it.

    How are things running?
