Disabling McAfee Security Center

I got a full version of McAfee Security Center with my laptop, and I want it disabled while I'm playing online computer games, as it can take up quite a bit of my memory, causing lag and such. There's no option to exit from the program however. Is there any way I can just temporarily disable this program and still turn it back on later? I'm tempted to end it on my Task Manager, but I don't want to permanently screw anything up.

I've tried several methods to temporarily disable McAfee - unsuccessfully.

    On Windows XP pro:

    > Windows Task Manager - Access Denied
    > services.msc - Access Denied
    > Security Center - No Advanced Menu
    > msconfig Startup - McAfee is not in the list

My user is set to admin. But, apparently I don't REALLY own this machine! :mad

I want to run ComboFix. But, McAfee interferes with it.

It's been over a year and nobody answered Askman, I hope 'refreshing' this thread will get some responses (and a solution).

Here's a link http://forums.mcafeehelp.com/showthread.php?t=213892 The thread is from 2007, so I don't really know if all instructions are still the same.

Personally, I would never turn off my security for whatever reason, except in some extreme cases where it would be absolutely necessary to do so. Your 'puter can be "bitten" any second when even temporarily disabling.

Thanks. But, I had already found that one. The suggested process didn't work for me.

You're right, I too am very security conscious. If I were able to turn off McAfee long enough to run ComboFix, I would first disconnect the Internet and turn off all apps. Immediately after ComboFix finished, I would restart McAfee.

I'm beginning to think that I won't be able to run ComboFix unless I start Windows in safe mode (if that would even work). Maybe, DOS mode would work (I think ComboFix is Windows independent).
