Microsoft Personal Storage Manager (Beta)

Found this Powertoy earlier and as most of us now-a-days use personal storage devices be that USB Pen/Key drives, to Media Cards etc thought this a useful app to post here on MGs.

Bare in mind this is a BETA and should be really installed on a non-critical PC or you are very aware of the pitfalls of using beta products.

Overview
Use of personal storage devices is growing due to the common usage scenarios of smart devices like digital cameras, digital camcorders and mobile phones on the consumer side and usage of mobile computing on the business side. The capabilities and capacities of these devices are growing to address the needs of the market and the price point is dropping with the volume. The introduction of personal storage devices into one's live comes with usability challenges like securing the content, synchronizing the content and management of these devices in different domains.

Now there is an easier way to work with personal storage devices. Microsoft Personal Storage Manager is a free power toy for Windows that provides an easy to work with personal storage devices. With a seamless explorer like interface the tool allows you to drag your files (music, documents and more) to and from the device. It furthermore allows you to create a secured password protected section on the device for storing files you do not want to fall into the wrong hands if you lose the device. Even if you loose the device, the tool allows you to save your credentials on the device so when someone finds the device they can contact you and bring it back. Lastly, the tool enables you to synchronize the content of the device with your computer enabling people that roam between computers to always have their important data up to date.

PLEASE NOTE: that the installer for this app is utilising the "ClickOnce" download aspect of XP, basically a live online installer same as Windows Update. Also needs Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 to be installed

as stated in the MS blurb above this app allows you to syncronize your portable media storage device with folders/files on your HD, good if you need to keep updates of documents and files on your removable drive, this way your always upto date.

You can also add owner data and contact info, to adding a secure password to your drive in case lost.
