Any logfiles to determine sending problem in Outlook 2007?

I've posted this problem before, but haven't received anything that helped. Now I'm asking if anyone knows of a logfile that I could look at in Outlook 2007 that might explain why mail is getting stuck in the outbox?

I'm using IMAP with Rackspace mail hosting, have tried running Outlook 2007 in safe mode, turning off Norton Internet Security email scanning, created a new profile, ran scanpst.exe - nothing seems to help. Mail will occasionally get stuck in the outbox, can't figure out what the circumstances are that cause it, sometimes mail will send flawlessly all day, only to fail later in the day.

Bringing down Outlook and re-starting it will cause the mail to be sent, but sometimes I don't notice that mail is stuck, and I'll have 5-6 emails that I assumed had gone out but are stuck. The "test" send/receive in Outlook works fine, however.

I'm thinking that there should be some sort of logfile where I might be able to tell what's happening to Outlook - it's almost as if it doesn't think that I'm logged in - PLEASE, anyone have any ideas?

You can use the Microsoft FitIt or follow the manual directions further down the page at:

Side thoughts: Are you using the secure option in outgoing mail? There could be settings worth tinkering with including different ports to send on. Many ISP's no longer allow the default ports (25 if I recall correctly) due to hacking.

Thank you! I don't know how i kept missing this option. i've set it and now waiting for outlook to fail. i did reset the ports yesterday, no longer using port 25 - i'm using a t1 connection, and as far as i know, there's no restriction on ports, but rackspace suggested another port for secure connection. so far today, it hasn't failed, but sometimes it takes a day for it to fail, so i'll keep an eye on it. at least now i have the ability to see what's happening when sending fails - thanks again!

OK, I've been running logging for the past several days and have had mail intermittently get stuck in the outbox. I was able to pin down a time today when I tried sending an email so that I could check the logfile for activity around that time. Here's what I see:

    IMAP: 12:15:51 [rx] + idling
    IMAP: 12:16:11 [tx] DONE
    IMAP: 12:16:11 [db] OnNotify: asOld = 5, asNew = 5, ae = 3

I think that the OPM log is where I need to look for problems sending, but I don't see anything there - here's the last part of the OPM log:

Any suggestions? This is driving me nuts - I've overlooked several important outgoing emails that were stuck, and really need to find out what the problem might be.

    Thanks!

    Hi

With what you have already tried in OL2007 Safe Mode which disables any add-ons that could cause issues, to what MA has mentioned, I would be contacting Rackspace Support as it could be something their end thats causing this and they are the best to locate any issues as you are going through their mailservers.

Especially as in that log nothing looks out of place, as its done its job and then gone idle, with no error codes.

Thanks for the reply - yes, the first thing i did was to contact Rackspace support - they don't see any problems on their end - the thing that's odd is that the opm log doesn't show any attempt to send email - should it?

Thanks so much for your help
