uninstall avg free problem

I have a very old laptop running windows me.
It has avg free 7.5 build 510 installed on it.

I tried to install it several times without luck. I have tried the built in uninstall option by avg and via add/remove programs in control panel.

I get the messsage: 1 error occurred

Local machine:installation failed
Installation:
Error:Action failed for file avgcc.exe: creating backup...
Access is denied. (5)%DESTINATION%="C:\Program files\grisoft\avg free\avgcc.exe.install_backup",%SOURCE%="C:\Program files\grisoft\avg free\avgcc.exe"

Any idea why i can not uninstall?

You have to stop all the AVG services before you try and uninstall it.

Hello, I had the same problem with free AVG uninstall. However, you can uninstall it without having to download some uninstall program.
Just click START, click Control Panel, click Administrative Tools, click Services.
Locate and highlight each AVG entry and RIGHT click on it. Go to Properties. Stop the service and Disable it for each AVG entry.
Return to Control Panel and use Add/Remove to uninstall or go to ALL PROGRAMS and use AVGs Uninstall feature.
Works like a charm.
