Norton Internet Security reports Adware.Websearch but can't clean it.
I can find it really quickly by scanning only c:\windows\temp.
Symantec instructions for manual removal didn't remove it.
Bitdefender wouldn't run (web site not authorized to host this Active-X...)
I ran Kaspersky scanner (3 virus, 4 infected)
I ran TrojanScan and it reported c:\windows\temp\zzz.tmp with Adware.Wintol.j.
    I disabled system restore.
    I booted in safe mode.
I ran CCleaner. It deleted several items (cookies, etc.)
I ran AdAware. 3 recognized, 3 critical. I think it cleaned them.
I ran Spybot. It fixed 28 problems.
I ran Microsoft Antispyware. It deleted 2 items.
    I ran Kill2me. Nothing.
    I ran CWShredder. Nothing.
I ran ewido. This found c:\windows\temp\zzz.tmp again but couldn't remove it.
Norton won't run well in safe mode.
Spyware Doctor doesn't find anything anymore.
Even Killbox could not remove c:\windows\temp\zzz.tmp.
I am attaching my latest HijackThis log.
I also added the log where ewido cleaning failed.
I can only work on this on weekends and I would REALLY appreciate expert assistance. Thank you.

Please follow the steps in the below link and post the log from Spy Sweeper:

    Running Spy Sweeper...

Let me know if it helps with your problem too.

YES! :) :) You've led me to a solution to a situation I've been fighting for weeks. I have a new favorite Tech web site and a new favorite anti-malware program. After taking the SpySweeper actions you recommended and allowing it to fix my PC, my Norton folder scan ran clean. I restarted and ran a full Norton scan (which came up clean also). I've re-enabled restore points and will now work on how NOT to get Norton, ewido, SpySweeper, and MS AntiSpyware icons all in my system tray (without using MSCONFIG, as I read in another thread).

Thanks again for your prompt and accurate hit on my problem, chaslang!

    Best regards, /Tom

You're welcome! You should not run both MS Antispyware and SpySweeper as a long term solution. I would keep only one running. If you are going to by Spy Sweeper so you can keep all features and get updates, I would then uninstall MS Antispyware or at a minimum disable all of its active protections and just keep it around for scanning. However that can still waste system resources.
