cant get windows update website to open

Ive recently got my hands on a secondhand notebook and updated with SP2 last night, however when I try and check for further updates tonight I get the following (OS windows xp home)

Problem Report
Access denied to system because of URL Filter Configuration.

Message ID
FILTER_DENIED

Problem Description
Your system was configured to deny access to the requested URL.

Possible Problem Cause
Request denied, as specified in the local filter list configuration.

Possible Solution
Contact your network support team if this problem persists.

Any ideas??

 

Have you tried deleting all the Temporary Internet Files and Cookies?


1) Open Internet Explorer and click on Tools
2) Click on Internet Options
3) On the General Tab, in the middle of the screen, click on Delete Files
4) You may also want to check the box "Delete all offline content"
5) Click on OK and wait for the hourglass icon to stop after it deletes the temporary internet files
6) You can now click on Delete Cookies and click OK to delete cookies that websites have placed on your hard drive.

just tryed your suggestion. made no diff

 

Check proxy settings in IE under Tools>Internet Options>Connections>LAN settings and ensure that all the following are unchecked.

>automatically detect settings
>use automatic configuration script
>use a proxy server for your LAN

Restart the computer.
