I have a similar problem that has been posted in
    this thread.

I cannot hear any sound. I have an AMD with AC97 sound card built on my Gigabit mother board.

I re-intalled the drivers that came with my CD
    with no luck.

I also downloaded the drivers from here.
    http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/dlac97-2.aspx?lineid=5&famid=12&series=8&Software=True

I normally can figure out this stuff, but no success
    so far.

Anyone who can help I would greatly appreciate it.

Have you tryed to go to control panal, then your sound, and make sure nothing is muted. Or right click the volume in sys. tray,go to volume and make sure nothing is muted.

Thank you for the response. Yes I have checked that. When I click
on Sounds and Audio devices in the control panel I get "No audio device'

so, to me, that would imply a driver issue, which I haven't been able to respond.

    Thanks,

    Matt

You might be better off just installing a sound card they are not that high.I've had trouble with on board sound and just kept messing with drivers. but it easyer to put a sound card in.JMO. Sorry I couldn't help anymore. By the way Welcome to Major Geek's. Someone else will mostlikely post more

Thanks for the welcome. I am thinking about doing that, in fact, installing
another sound card. i need sound for recording things, so if it
doesn't work soon I will do that.

    Thanks

What is your operating system? Is it a recent problem? Does the device manager show any issues?

    Hi,

XP SP2. No problems in the control panel, all devices are working
fine according to device manager in ctr-panel.

When I go to sounds, audio control, volume it is all "greyed out"
and says no audio device. Downloading drivers from realtek (
see above poste) and install the sound rivers from the CD-rom
    did nothing.

If it aint an easy fix I'll just buy a cheapo soundcard, but that
isn't me...I hate things to not work.

    Thanks.

Has it been working in the past? If it has do a driver rollback then a system restore to before the problem.

Or no sound all the time? (Has to be a driver issue) Also make sure sound is enabled in the bios.

In the device manager find the sound & uninstall it, reboot, then try the sound, then add the new driver if necessary.

    Another reference is here.

Apart from that someone else used the repair option of XP & the sound worked OK.

    Thanks for all the help.

All the speakers are plugged in and turned up.
My device manager shows no conflicts, my
control panel says everything is working
    correctly. I re-installed drivers with
    no avail.

I disabled the Realtek Sound card on
the MB BIOS and went and bought another
sound card. I installed the sound
    card and the drivers. Everything
is working fine in the device manager
and contorl panel with no conflicts
    or errors.

    The fundamental problem seems
to be that no matter what
when I click on sounds and audio
devices in the control panel I get
    "No Audio Device" listed

    See error here:

Is there something in the msconfig
or registry that is missing that
    will not associate the sound
    card with this?

My new card is a CMI3878/C3DX PCI Audio Device.

    Thanks to all.
