I am not at all proficient here. Only thing I know is people keep telling me that they get errors related to my laptop.

On my error log I see IP issue eventid 1001 DHCP client Events/Admin
    Source DHcp- clients
    Address config state
    IP address not assigned

When I go to cmd prompt and try to ping my FQDN it doesnt work. I can ping my ip address

Do I need to be wortied ?

Starting with the basics, is DHCP turned on in your laptop?
Click start, type in network, click network and sharing control panel, on the left click Change adapter settings, right click on the network adapter you use (usually called "Local Area Connection") and select properties, select IPV4 (Internet Protocol Version 4) and again hit properties.
You should see a radio button that says "Obtain an IP address Automatically" selected.
Look around that area and post any questions you have.

A more advanced way but better is to open a command prompt and type in
"ipconfig /all >ipconfig.txt" and post that information. Creates a text file at the prompt path.

A different approach that I like:

    ipconfig /all > ipconfig.txt && notepad ipconfig.txt

    OR

output the contents to the clipboard. Then paste it somewhere.

    ipconfig /all | clip

What people get errors related to your laptop?

All the errors on a computer (we currently have 8 in the house) are confined to one computer. Those errors do not show up on other computers.

Well it can't be your computer generating this error because your address is right there - 10.0.1.15 so is someone else involved here? And can you translate 'my FQDN' please, I have no idea what that is.

That IP address is fishy. Is this a work network? I don't know anyone who uses 10.x IPs at home.

I remember having an old DSL modem that would assign 10. addresses when it wasn't connecting to the network properly.

It is my home network. I have 2 routers Apple Time Capsule through an Arris supplied by Optimum. We can all back up to the time capsule on the z drive. My mac user does wireless back up. We can all use either router. Possibly it's not set up correctly. It works from what I can see. We only share printers and the backup drive.

Also looking at my errors there is this critical error that seems to be happening all the time. No clue what it means:

one is apple time capsule which is primarily used as a back up router. The main router is the arris which should be part of optimum online. I can sign in wirelessly through either router though.

  12. Earthling

    Earthling Interplanetary Geek

When there are two routers in the same network only one of them can assign network IP addresses. So I'm guessing that this error message with the 10.0.1.X address occurs only when you log on to the time capsule but not when you log on to the Arris. Can you comment on that?

With two routers, and if they both route the correct traffick, I'd go with static IPs if possible. Or DHCP with static settings. That way there is no conflicts.
