How to uninstall a program that won't uninstall?

My Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo X2 won't open, it shows up in the "process" part of the task manager but the program it self doesn't actually show up to me. And if I click it and don't end task it out of task manager my firefox or windows live or some other programs won't run either. I tried to uninstall it but I can't, it will say preparing uninstall, then it'll say "Please wait while windows configures Corel Pain Shop Pro Photo X2" and just sits there like that, and doesn't move forward. It's not technically frozen but it won't do anything else, or cancel out. I can leave it there for 10 hours while using my computer that it won't do anything else.

I asked this question earlier on Y!Answers and someone recommended Revo uninstaller but that didn't uninstall it either, it brought me to the same message "windows is configuring corel ...." and never moved on either.

Can someone tell me whats going on with my Corel and how to make it work? Or at least how to Uninstall it please?

Oh and I have windows vista, and this problem is occurring on my compact labtop, I don't know if that would make a difference or not.
    Thanks Ahead!

Yes, and I clicked it, and it did the process thoroughly but it still won't open... or uninstall. :(

do you have the original install media?

you could try reinstalling it? this should fix any corruption issues then you could uninstall with revo or continue using the software

oh wait, it did do something, now instead of not moving forward at the "please wait while windows reconfigures corel pain shop pro photo x3" it shows a time bar thing saying "time remaining: 1 second." and then it stops doing stuff.

Well kind of, my cousin downloaded the program for me from the free trials page and then he did something and like.. made it work permanently, with a key gen or something and an offline validation code? I don't really know, all I know is that it works fine on my other computer for for some reason has decided to not work on my laptop. And I formatted my computer since it was giving me the same problem before and reinstalled it and it was working again and just stopped, again. But I really don't want to reformat again, I was hoping I had other options.

I read on some other posts about your uninstaller and I'm giving it a try. It has opened up a window that looks like it's the installer for the Corel Paint Shop Pro but it's not doing anything either.... it just sits there. There's a progress bar and its a 0, which it has been for like 10 minutes. I REALLY don't want to reformat, I have about 50 gigs of music and movies on my computer and I'm in Europe and my HD is in the US along with my other computer so I have no where to put my stuff if I reformat, I would basically just loose everything. I can't do that. :(:(

Revo still relys on the fact that the programs built in uninstaller still functions.

Your best bet is then to download the software again, re-install it over the top and then remove it from your machine. The reinstall should restore the uninstallation files allowing you to uninstall normally.

Otherwise you'll have to manually remove it from your machine, deleting files, removing registry entries unregistering dll's etc. which can be a bit messy and is likely to leave stuff behind.

Not to mention any nasties left behind through the use of the keygen & activation tools.

Maybe run some scans as suggested in the stickies of the malware forum...

Update: I used the Windows Uninstaller 2008 which at first seemed like it just got stuck like all my other failed tries, so I opened my task manager and end tasked out of the corel.exe which made WU start working again and it seems that it has uninstalled. :)

Should I try re-installing the program or do you think it'll just give me the same problem again?

Sounds like you may have gotten rid of it, may I ask where you got the Windows Uninstaller 2008? Also, thats great. Now unless you want Corel back on your PC, you should be all set. And if you go to install it again, it shouldn't give you any issues.

    Best of luck.

I was going to suggest that too. FRankly it helps me a lot in the lab.
