I am having problems running these programs:

What is the deal with extraction?

This computer has 300+ RAM...doesnt seem to be enough to load Newest Ubuntu.

Looks like either dependencies are not being met, or you could possibly try the Alternate Install CD or try Xubuntu. I use KPackage, Synaptic usually, and the terminal (Linux Console, Root Shell) on occasion to install programs on our KDE system (PCLOS2008 MiniMe). For Firefox upgrades I just simply deleted the old folder containing the 3.04version and replaced it with the new 3.05 after extracting, that method has been working well with upgrades since installing 3.0 with Synaptic.
