    Disable McAfee while doing the below.

    Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

    Uninstall the below very old versions of software:
    AnyProtect
    Java 7 Update 67
    Java(TM) 6 Update 24

    Now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment Make sure that when you see the form asking about installing Ask Toolbar that you uncheck this.

    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win 7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar
      ) and choose Paste.
    • Now click the large [​IMG] button.
    • If OTM asks to reboot your computer, allow it to do so. The report should appear in Notepad after the reboot.
    • Close OTM.
    Now navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder ( assuming your Windows drive is C). This is where your log will be
    saved in the form of Date and Time mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log. Just look for the most recent .log file. Attach
    this log file to your next message.


    Now please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Note: That JRT may reset your home page to a google default so you will need to restore your home page setting if this happens.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.
    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).


    Then attach the below logs:
    • the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles log
    • the JRT.TXTlog
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
    Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Hello chaslang,
    I have attached the new logs. A couple things to note while following your directions:
    When trying to remove Windows Messenger using the tool I get the following popup:

    When trying to uninstall AnyProtect I kept getting this popup:

    Connection Error(File Open Error)
    Please check your internet connection and hit OK
    ____________________________________

    And as far as I can tell it didn't uninstall it.


    The system seems to be running much better than it did prior to running these fixes. Although I haven't been able to play with it very much yet.

    Please let me know if I need to do anything else especially in regards to the above errors. Otherwise thanks for the assistance!!

    One other thing, is that since this happened I have a bunch of folders that are locked. I go in as the administrator to change the permissions and it says access denied. Any ideas on this either?

    You're welcome. I think McAfee got in the way of some parts of the fix an we may have to uninstall McAfee to fully fix. Please run RogueKiller again and attach a new log. I expect that the proxy server settings will still show and they need to be removed.

    You need to be much more specific on what you are referring to. There are many folders in Windows that you are not allowed to access and this is normal.

    Okay then uninstall McAfee now to get it out of our way and then reboot.

    After reboot, continue.

    Please check to see if you can see the below files and folders and delete them if the still exist. Let me know what your results are!!

    Now run RogueKiller and run a scan. After it finishes the scan, select the Registry tab and then select any of the below that exist and then click the Delete button.

    Then immediately reboot your PC.

    After reboot, run a new scan with RogueKiller and save a log as in original instructions and attach the new log.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).


    Then attach the below logs:
    • the new RogueKiller log
    • C:\MGlogs.zip

    Please see the attached log. I uninstalling McAfee then followed your directions. The computer seems to be running very well and all of the popup ads and other crap are gone. If these look good let me know if I can finish the READ ME steps:

    You're welcome. Those proxy server items did not get fixed with RogueKiller.

    Are your copies of SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes the paid versions with protection or are they just free versions?

    Please go back to my fix in message # 2 with OTM and run that fix from OTM thru to the end and attach the logs requested at the end of that fix.

    SUPERAntiSpyware is the free version
    Malwarebytes is the version downloaded from the READ ME FIRST instructions and I didn't pay for it.

    I re-ran the OTM program but it gets hungup and goes in to a not responding mode. I let it sit for about an hour and it didn't change. I rebooted tried again with the same result. Although I did find the attached log after the reboot.

    Please try running the OTM part in safe boot mode. Then reboot back to normal mode for the rest.

    Please download OTL by OldTimer.
    • Save it to your desktop.
    • Double-click on the OTL icon on your desktopto run it. (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8 use right-click and select Run as Administrator)
    • Check the "Scan All Users" checkbox.
    • Check the "Standard Output".
    • Change the setting of "Drivers" and "Services" to "All"
    • Copy the text in the code box below and paste it into the [​IMG] text-field.

    • Now click the [​IMG] button.
    • If the fix needed a reboot please do it.
    • Click the OK button (upon reboot).
    • When OTL is finished, Notepad will open. Close Notepad.
    • A log file will be located at C:\_OTL\MovedFiles\mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log, where mmddyyyy_hhmmss is the date of the tool run.
    • Attach this log to your next message. (See: How to attach)
    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • the log from OTL
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
    Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    You're welcome. Your logs are clean.

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    7. If you are running Win 8, Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below to flush restore points:
      • Refer to the instructions for your WIndows version in this link: Disable And Enable System Restore
      • What we want you to do is to first disable System Restore to flush restore points some of which could be infected.
      • Then we want you to Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    Hello chaslang
    One more questions for you. Would what we have done cleaned everything on both profiles on the computer? The reason I ask if that on my wives logon she gets on error message stating:
    "There was a problem starting
    C:\Users\..........\Local\Conduit\BackgroundContainer\BackgroundContainer.dll
    The specified module could not be found."

    I ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and HitMan again on her side. Hitman found the conduit malware and cleaned a bunch of it. Then I ran Malwarebytes and it was clean.

    Any thoughts?

    The logs you posted are primarily for one user account only. Some common areas are touch though which is why that error shows now. The common program file/folder was removed for the junkware but your wives registy/startup items were not cleaned up since we were not working on her user account.

    Try a simple run of JRT on your wives user account and see if that helps. If not, I will need you to run MGtools while logged into your wives account and attach the new MGlogs.zip.
